OK, I was at the bookstore yesterday, and I first saw a "Complete History of BMW"...leafing through it, there was a lot of talk of the McLaren F1, and about half a dozen photographs, from the F1 GTR to the motor to XP5 and a couple of others from the Le Mans victory. I think we have seen all the pics here, but it was a nice book, and if BMWs float your boat then it seemed detailed and comprehensive enough to be a good buy.
Next, on my way out, I spotted a book called Collecting Wheels. Lots of stories of fabulous collections--from muscle cars to F1 cars to Ferraris, as you would expect, with a few well known names such as Jon Shirley and a few (to me) unknowns. What was interesting was the last chapter ... on Bruce Weiner. I didn't have a chance to read it, and it only seemed to have pics of his micro cars. I didn't see an F1s in that book in my cursory flipping, but it seemed like a decent book. I would really like to try and understand what drives people to keep on acquiring more cars than they could possibly drive, and then lock them away. Maybe this book could help. Maybe not.

I have the "Complete History of BMW" in my library. I haven't read it in a while, but I recall there were some inaccuracies in the text relating to the F1. Nothing major - just some things that didn't sit right with me. The photos throughout the book are great.

That's not the same book. That one says it is a paperback and was published in 1980. The book that monster and I are talking about is a hardback large format book which was probably published within the past 2-3 years.
Here's a website with a description but no cover photo:

Here's an Amazon link - still no photo:
http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-History-BMW-Andrew-Noakes/dp/1405453168/sr=8-1/qid=1166816432/ref=sr_1_1/102-2601773-7506537?ie=UTF8&s=books
I've seen the item on Ebay before, but don't see one listed now.

I may have been inaccurate about the title. On Google, I found Wheels: A Passion for Collecting Cars, which sounds like it's the same book I was talking about. Here's a link to what I found via google. (http://www.amazon.com/Wheels-Passion-Collecting-Stuart-Leuthner/dp/0810955962)
If I go to the bookstore and find it again, I will write down the exact title and author.

The Andrew Noakes book was also published in a German edition under the title "Faszination BMW". Don't know if the cover is the same but there are pictures of it on various web sites.
