Hi Guy's
I have a 00 Silverado, It's been getting in the 20's at night here lately,,When i take off in the morning, the truck doe's not want to shift into 3rd or 4th untill it warms up after 4 or 5 miles?? If the outside temp is above 30 it shifts fine??
I let it warm for 15 or 20 mins, still the same,,,I have 110,000 miles on her,I change the fluid and filter every 25,000.. Last winter it did the same thing, The weather warmed up and i forgot about it,,This winter it's doing it again, and i'm getting worried..Don't want to damage the trans...

Thank you for your help.Tom Martin

I'm pretty sure this is normal. The transmission doesn't shift up so that the RPM's stay higher and everything gets up to normal operating temperature faster. Nothing to worry about, just don't push it too hard. All our vehicles do this, though it is much more noticible on a really cold morning.

Mine does the same thing...just go easy and don't push it until the engine/trans gets warmed up a little. Which is pretty much what wrparks said.

I installed an auxilary tranny cooler in my old blazer this past summer and now that it is cold the darn thing will not shift except when I first start driving . I accidently installed it after the radiator and the fluid is getting too cold . I have to switch the lines on the radiator . Rob
