I've had my 1996 Chevy Cavalier since April 2006 And Have had numerous problems. But one problem that has become a pain lately is my horn is out. I dont know if its the fuse or the actual horn. I've looked at my fuse box panel label and cant seem to find one that says "Horn" is it labeled undersomething else?? Also If its not the fuse how do I check the actual horn?
Thanks
Thanks

maybe you can look at it and see if there is any damage. it is under the bumper on the left corner if you are looking at the car from the front

Alright. I just did that... But I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for... Or how to tell if there is any damage...

I am not sure what fuse the horn is run through. I know that the control is included in the turn signal/headlight switch assembly. Basically the stick that comes out of the left hand side of the steering wheel. There is a small piece of metal that is spring loaded included in that assembly. When that contacts a piece of metal behind the steering wheel, it activates the horn and makes it sound. If there is something wrong with that assembly, or something making the two not connect, that may be your issue. If you want to test the horn itself, you can simpy run two wires, one from each side of the battery, then connect the positive one to the positive side of the horn and the negative one to the negative side of the horn. I would think that if the horn is in working order, it will sound when the circuit is complete. Good Luck!

something i notice when i push the horn is that you can hear an electronic click that sounds like it is coming from the glove box, maybe just push the horn a few times and listen for a click and if you hear one that probly means all the electrical stuff is working and the horn it's self is broken. so try that and get back to us

check the fuse for cig lighter , Mr Haynes says they are together . However my 2000,sunfire has a separate fuse marked horn. 4th slot going across top of fuse panel. it goes in this order,
Ign Mod
blank slot,
rt headlight
Horn
I know it`s not a `96 cavy but they are basically the same cars.

Maybe that could be it? I mean a few months back it was dark and I accidently stuck my key in my cig lighter and I saw a huge spark and now the cig lighter doesnt work... maybe that could have something to do with it...

This is the correct fuse for the '96. If your cigarette lighter works, and you hear a clicking noise when you push the horn (relay clicking as stated above) the problem is your horn. A replacement horn is about $13.00 at most parts stores (I've replaced my daughter's '96 Sunfire horn twice).
To replace it, from underneath the passenger side front bumper, remove the plastic splash guard-about 6 screws, you'll then see the horn.

Alright so the fuse for the cig lighter was blown so I replaced it and still nothing :(Did it pop the fuse again ?if it did ,look for the horn where mike 2004tct says it is and follow wires back, probably bare wire there somewhere causing a short and popping fuse

I'm a girl Not too much of a car genius...ha ha not a genius .some girls are pretty handy around cars.Anyway just find the horn ,there will be wires coming from it .just trace them back as far as you can looking for a bare wire that may touch metal and therefore pop the fuse

True. And if I find a bare wire, Then what do I do? lol...

probably the easiest for you if you find the bare wire just get some black electrical tape and tape it up .not the best but it will do for now
