My AEM Competition CAI arrived yesturday, at least i they said it was a cold air intake. Actually, the intake can either be short ram or cold air, cause theres two tubes u connect together but if u dont connect the one, the filter will just sit right next to the engine. Is that cool or wat? I'm assuming its not like that with all CAI, sinces my friends del sol was only one pipe. Lemme know if u think thats cool or if im just a moron dumbass ricer. :frog:

Actually, all the AEM CAI's I've seen have been 2-pipes. Although, It is kinda cool that you could use it as a short ram... hadn't thought about that.

Of course im gonna use it as a CAI, thats y i spent $250 on it silly :D . Ill probably change to shortram if i ever go to a show or something, cause i think it looks better.

I would convert it to short ram for the winter. Would hate to drive through a puddle and have water go in the engine:eek:

Yeah, my del sol friend thinks that the water wont get in in filter unless theres a flood, guess he'll find out the hard way. Oh well, that'll be one less del slo on the road. :frog:

actually he kid is right about having to be in a flood to really have to worry about it, or at least in a flooded section of road, b/c unless that intake is 100% under water or damn near it its not gonna suck it up, but if you know its raining that hard that there is a possibility that the road may be flooded tke 5 min and do make it a short ram

Dude, what are you talking about. Road wet = tires spitting up water. If the filter is down there, then it is going to suck in more water than a conventional short ram would.

Maybe not enough to make a difference, but think about all those puddles you drive through when its raining that you dont even know about, you just hear the water. Flood will definatley fuck up your car.

WHY TAKE CHANCES, IF ITS RAINING, OR PREDITED TO, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE IT SHORT RAM!!

ci5ic: I have seen a couple of aem CAI's on integras and prelude that are all one pipe, but I have seen the two pipe ones recenlty, everyone in the "neon crew" has the same aem cai

thats all well and good, but realise that the filter is IN FRONT of the tires... and it is protected from the tire by plastic.

the filter would need to be submerged anyway to suck up water. splashing a little bit of water onto the filter wont hurt it.

all in all air intakes dont do much at all

just noisy and overpriced.

I still say over time, the extra water the CAI is exposed to is going to do damage.

My air intake wasnt overpriced ($16 eBay) and it sounds way better than the stock intake

well i agree with you as well...

i for one will never spend money on a CAI becuase it just isnt worth it... there are far cheaper methods of getting cold air into the IM without having the filter 4" from the ground.

Like taking out the right headlight so the air will go straight to it:D

or buying some dryer ducting and running that up from the front fender... then getting some aluminum sheeting and making a heat shield for the filter.

Thank you!

I was just waiting to get to the end of this thread to see if anyone else said this. You spend $200+ on a CAI, you might as well spend $40 on a bypass valve.

Be careful of those bypass valves, especially the ones on AEM CAI's. Cause aem was having problems with people sucking em right into the intake!!

That was the first batch of AEM's bypass valve. They recalled all of these and replaced them with a new batch that doesn't suck in the foam part of the valve. As for a CAI sucking in water it really does have to be submerged to do any damage. As long as you have the spalshguard in place you will be fine. Plus the oil on the filter will repel small amounts of water that might get on the filter.

250?!!!??? When you look at buying an intake realize that the performance you gain is not that significant and almost all brands will add about the same.... I made the mistake of buying one for $90 when I could have just gotten a $30 off ebay that would have had the same gains... That $250 would have been better spent to a larger throttle body and intake manifold. More power is made there.......

dude i so gotta call you on this one... if anything the wee lil bit, and i mean very little amount of water that does actually make it to your engine will do it more good than harm, one it removes carbon from your engine, the engine my not run at its fullest potential at the time but its still prefectly fine, and 2 in some really huge engines they actually have h2o injection, they inject tiny amounts of h2o to help cool the engine, most races have banned it though so you may not hear about it too often but it is done

here take a look at a few of these links and if you still feel like calling bull shit on me go for it, but i know i'm right either way

http://www.rallycars.com/Cars/WaterInjection.html

hmmm check this one out, its made by spearco
http://www.turboneticsinc.com/spearco/h20inject.htm

http://www.spiceisle.com/nutmeg/car.htm

now say it with me... small amounts of H2O will not hurt my engine

thank you
Jeff
