crankshaft...

so i was sitting here just daydreaming and was thinkin bout all new parts possible which are obviously many haha, and i started thinkin bout crankshafts and how much they would/wouldn't help my car. so any insight would be greatly appreciated. thnx.

so you're just going to tear the engine down and put a new crank in?? Even if it were a stroker crank (which i assume is what you're talking about) that is a lot of work for very little reward. You may as well get a plan together of what you want done to your car and how much you realistically can spend on it. If you want it to be faster, then while you're tearing it apart needlessly, put a new set of pistons and rods in it and find a good turbo kit/supercharger.

I dont know how good of a platform the Cavalier is, but this sounds like a ton of work for very little gain in the end....not to mention its going to cost you more than you think

You can get your stock one rebalanced and and cryo treated. Sooo many thing can be done to an engine... just depends on how much $$ you have and how far you want to go. We had a new couple move in next door from FLA and he brought a MINT condition 94 240sx with absolutely zero rust and only 50K miles on the clock with him but dosn't want it anymore.. 4K... I am seriously thinking about snagging that up. Since i know everyone and their mother owns a 240 but nothing of this stature and youth around here. Seeing its OBD1.. sooooo much potential, i told him i would tear it down to every nut and bolt and put my $400 paper weight on that instead of the cav.

Honestly you can yeld better gains by doing some head work and a cam. Port and polish. 1mm overbore valve, new springs and retainers, guides, Stonger push rods and some nice roller rockers you'd be feeling a nice improvement in your butt dyno.

20-40hp gain from a new crank.....there isn't a chance in hell that's going to happen. I'm not trying to be an ass, but lets be realistic here....you might see 10whp. It is a HUGE waste of money and time...Nitrous would be a hell of a lot more effective.
