Weird starting issues

My car can start everytime but in certain situations the car will crank for about 2 seconds and then start, compared to its usual half-second crank-n-start.

Here is what i've noticed:

-Car starts normally every morning or when it has been parked for more than 9hrs.
-Car will start normally if it has only been parked for under 10 mins.
-HOWEVER, car will need to be cranked for at least 2 seconds (and sounds real weak) when the car has been parked between 10mins and 9hrs.

SO why is it that it starts withing 10mins of being parked, AND afters 9hrs of rest but not in between?? DOes it have to do with fuel lines or pressure in fuel system??

Anyone have any idea????

Hm, that time thing is the only thing that sounds a bit odd. I would suggest just inspecting the ground wires on your starter. It could be as simple as that. I can't really explain the 10mins-9 hours thing, not sure anybody else will be able to either. Mine is kinda intermittant. Sometimes it cranks right over, sometimes it takes 2 seconds as well. I'm 95% sure its just hte wires on the starter in my case, I just need to clean the terminals up a bit.

Well the reason it starts right up within 10 minutes after shutting it off is because the ecu still stores the crank position sensor signal's last position until then, then it gets erased and has to crank a full revolution to find the position of the crank again.

The reason it starts up after 9 hours is because the fuel vapors in your fuel system settle in the cylinders over that time and when you crank it over, it ignites the built-up fuel causing it to start-up more easily.


Now is any of that true? I don't know, but it sounded like it could be. As long as it starts I wouldn't worry about it. ;D

Fuel filter was replaced 2 months ago.

so there is nothing else i can do to improve it??

I would suggest just inspecting the ground wires on your starter.

clean/replace the terminals and or wires

could also clean the terminals of hte battery, check your spark plugs. Etc...
