Cleaning Fuel Tank

I am about to replace my fuel pump, and the new pump recommends cleaning the fuel tank before installation.

Just wondering if anyone has done this, and how they have done it.

Are you sure it is not referring to the mount points for the pump? They made need to be cleaned, but you will want to make sure you do not get any crud in the tank as the pump will pick it up.
