Low Fuel Indicator

I recently (sunday dec 17th) repalced my fuel filter and added 2 pints of seafoam to a full tank of gas (34 gal). The fuel filter was clogged.

Typically, I run the fuel down to the point where the low fuel indicator lights goes on (about 5 gals remain in the tank when the light goes on). Never had a problem.

The truck always starts right up with a touch of the key.

Mon, the low fuel light was on and truck stalled once. Re-started, but restarted hard. Added $20 worth of gas.

Yesterday, the truck stalled twice, again the low fuel light was on. This has never happened before. When it stalls, there is no sputtering, the engine just quits, like someone killed the power and the restarting is hard. Filled the tank. The SES light came on. I will stop at advance auto parts to get it scanned tonight.

Is the stalling and the low fuel indicator coming on a coincidince or is there a fail safe in the computer that cuts the power for whatever reason (it never happened before). Or is the stalling an indication that something is going bad. The SES light is still on.

As I said, this stalling has never happened since I bought the truck new in Jan 2002. (93000mi and 2 payments left).

Anybody have any ideas?

This may be a stupid question, but did you install the filter the correct way? The filters are unidirectional.

I always draw flow arrows with a sharpie to make sure it is in the right direction.

Regardless, after cutting the filter open and seeing what's inside, the direction shouldn't make a difference. (its only a paper element).

But I will double check.

After a full tank of gas, everything seems ok - no more stalling.

Wish I knew what the querk was...
