I really should be working on the Eclipse, but sometimes it's good to take a break and build something simple to get the juices flowing again, my juices have been kinda stagnent lately  I keep getting hung up on minute little things that you won't be able to see when the build is completed anyway :uhoh:

Anyhow, I'm building Revell's excellent RSX kit pretty much OOB as to simplify things, no custom turbo set ups or wildly intricate engine detailing on this one. Minimal mods...

Here's the color I'm using, Tamiya light green because I looooooooove lime green :grinyes: I will be making custom masks based on the included tear graphics and spray them black, which should look really sweet. This is just a pic of the stock rear bumper I painted as a test, I'll be using the bodykit.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Exterior/Color_sweet.jpg?t 1166419104

These are the wheels from the '93 Civic, the centers will be gloss black and the lip and hardware will be chrome/polished. Rotors will be aluminum metalizer, brass hubs, and black calipers.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Exterior/Wheels_01.jpg?t 1166419154

The kit wing will be painted black with green caps and balck struts, I'll use black sponsor decals from, uh, somewhere, dunno yet, and I might paint that one section of the hood/front bumper gloss black. I would love to have some smoked Altezza style tails, but these lenses are solid red...

I didn't like the stock look kit of the steering wheel on such an eye-catching ride, and I had an extra Revell Eclipse steering wheel and column laying around, soooo...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Interior/AFMSW_2.jpg?t 1166419698
Looks much better IMHO, It will be black and silver, I just might make that center button thing green just because, the only other green thing will be the palm patch on the shift knob.

The interior is flat black and two shades of primer gray, the carpet was sprayed a light primer which spat everywhere, which was good because it simulates the look of carpet better than the kit plastic. The remaining greys are darker primer, and the rest is flat black. I have yet to mask off certain parts of the doors, dash, center console, audio housing, and seats to be painted grey, black, or silver trim. Yes I know, the sub rings look awful, I did them with a half dry Sharpie :shakehead :puke: Will redo...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Interior/Interior_01.jpg?t 1166419796

That big empty package shelf was just begging to have some amps for the audio system installed. I'm using my own resin parts again, either 2 JL Audios (left) or 2 Kicker KX's (right). Both are shades of black, silver, and grey, so they'd go well with the rest of the interior. Or I could have the housing "custom painted" lime green just to be different...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Interior/Interior_02.jpg?t 1166420091
Oh yeah, and the seats will be decked out with black 4 point belts and hardware. I might do a lime green iPod nano for the dash, that'd be cool :naughty:

As much as I would like to go hog wild again with engine detailing, I must refrain *slaps own hand away from box of detailing wire* as I will refrain from adding any non-kit parts *busts ruler across knuckles as hand reaches for the resin stash* :grinno:

This is the engine before detail painting, dry fit (nothing glued except for the the block and tranny) to the front subframe/cradle. Aluminum metalizer, Smoke wash, Tamiya green valve cover (the intake shroud will be the same color, but it's being stripped after I dropped it while wet). You can't really tell, but the green bled away from all the sharp edges :banghead:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/Engine_01.jpg?t 1166424462

The first thing I noticed when I saw the engine on the box is that the conical air filter is right next to the exhaust manifold, not good for performance. :disappoin Since I wasn't going to be doing alot, I decided not to build a heat shield (as one should) but to just chop the intake pipe a little. I drilled it out and added a rod to the filter, and now it sits a little further from the heat. But it's still not a very good situation... :sly:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/Intake_02.jpg?t 1166424782

I mixed some aluminum and some gold to get the brass color that I used to paint all the bolts. You can see (in order) the oil pan, the back of the engine, the front of the engine (painted wiring harness, water neck, and starter also) and the pulley assembly. I will be doing a second wash later tonight, and sometime later this week I should have more of the engine finished.

I actualy built one of these awhile ago and wasn't disapointed in anything exept for the brakes and the front window fit. i kind of want to redo the body as i really messed it up.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
hatcher, I will post up a body pic for you in my next update, I would suggest it anyway, it's a great kit, probably Revell's best tuner kit IMHO.
GAMER-- actually, K20s are DOHC, encased by the valve cover. The green "gear" is actually a pulley, I want to say P/S but RSXs don't have a conventional fluid-assisted P/S system, if I remember right...

Lookin good Dak. You gotta love that color. Looks a hell of a lot better then the model master sublime. The wash on the engine looks great too, Really adds to the realism............*Ryan*

OK, got a little progress here for you guys. My internet was giving me fits, so this could have been posted days ago... :banghead:

Dry fitting of the mostly finished engine, still working on that intake cover. The valve cover details are semi gloss black, brake hubs are gold. Since this pic I have added more wash to the pulleys, repainted the brake hubs and top belt accessory (I still want to call it a P/S pump) Tamiya titanium gold, and used a little more wash here and there.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/Engine_08.jpg?t 1167599816

The engine bay was detail painted, just a few points are the steering rack, ABS unit, and master cylinder.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/Engine_Bay_01.jpg?t 1167600118

All together now! Still nothing glued yet, I'm going to wait until I know everything is completely ready to go together.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/Engine_Bay_03.jpg?t 1167600307

Before I weathered the chassis, I painted the major components that would be different colors (aluminum parts, the fuel pump, brakes lines, etc). I have the whole process on my photobucket as a walk through if anyone wants to see what I did.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Chassis/Weathering1_03.jpg?t 1167601036

Here's the chassis weathered, I was aiming for light weathering, not a huge build up of crud and road gunk.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Chassis/Weathering2_04.jpg?t 1167600678

An up close shot, I think I might add some rust here and there.

Here's the link to the chassis Photobucket, and the chassis weathering mini-write up:

I might be able to get some more up later... Enjoy!

:eek2: for not doing any major work, I'd say that is just about as good as it gets. I hate hondas, but this is sensational

@ rsxse240: Thanks bro  Hate hondas, huh? What do the first 3 letters of your screen name spell :sly: LOL, j/k Hey BTW, I sent you a PM reply a while back, dunno if you got it? Lemme know...

Dude, Cobra, that looks tight! I thought about metallic lime, but decided on just straight green because of the compliment color, gloss black. It looks like you're using the same amps too  I like it. I won't be using the CF on the hood, though, I'll be painting it...

daklunk the paint of your motor is in metalizer? is look good

daklunk
12-31-2006, 08:54 PM
Yeah, mostly everything aluminum is Metalizer. I love this stuff, it's all I use anymore. Great in the can or in a bottle, it says for airbrsuh only but I use it just the same on a brush. It's fantastic stuff.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

A little more, here's the pic of the dash and the steering wheel that if I had in 1:1 I'd put it on my wall. :icon16: Dash is dark primer, flat and semi gloss black, and the wheel is aluminum, lime green, and blacks, with a smoke wash.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Interior/Interior_03.jpg?t=1167690173

Got the exhaust sytem finished, although I see a couple places I need to soften the rust a bit, went a little heavy. Aluminum, flat black mist, and burnt metal and iron metalizers were used. The chassis also recieved a little rust...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Chassis/Weathering_Exhaust_07.jpg?t=1167690335

I gave it this much heat rust because it's a stock exhaust system and it's been on there a while (I wish Revell would include an aftermarket exhaust occasionally... Well, they did in the Eclipse, I guess...)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Chassis/Weathering_Exhaust_09.jpg?t=1167690528

More pics @ photobucket...

Enjoy!

Looking good! Chassis detail is superb.

Your attention to detail is supreme. It's amazing how your flawless body is in stark contrast to the worn and used chassis, but both go together so well. I can't wait to see further progress.

Man,that is awesome. I'm speechless... That is just...WOW!
BTW,a exaust made from sprue would look too tiny? Cuz I made one of those on my VTi and went great! :p

Wow, thanks for the encouragement, guys! :)

Well, the engine is complete, and as for me, it's hopeless. I'm a detailing junkie, I couldn't help adding a couple things. Took some spark plug wire and a couple pieces of wire insulation and a small piece of styrene, and made a throttle cable. The upper radiator hose is just a big piece of wiring, I think it's a little small but it's better than nothing. The intake cover still needs a coat or two of paint, the Tamiya spray green just hates this plastic!!!
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/K20_Finished_03.jpg?t=1167754010

I thought about making the cable for cruise control, but that would have made making the clip a pain. The clip is a small styrene rod section with the end notched with a V, the wire is held in place with a dot of super glue. I kinda wish there was something to fill that big space above the tranny... like a turbo :evillol: LOL
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/K20_Finished_03.jpg?t=1167754010

I think it came out all right, what do you think?
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y193/daklunk/Acura%20RSX/Engine/K20_Finished_04.jpg?t=1167754010

QC&C welcome  Sure feels good to see something going together this "quick"...

Thats some GREAT work on the engine.

I think you should have built it curbside and left the engine on a stand. that is a work of art all on it's own.

Hey Cris! Long time no see, good to hear from ya! Eclipse is still in the making...

Thanks 240, I wouldn't mind building another with more detail for display. Revell did a fantastic job with the block detail. There are quite a few engines I wouldn't mind building for display... maybe one of your SR20s :grinyes:

that really makes me feel good! I'd be honored to see your talents put to work on one of my engines.

Shoot, you're the one scratching an entire engine, gotta give huge props for that :worshippy: :grinyes:

School has started :puke: so I have a little less time to spend modeling. And I thinned my bottle of lime green way too much, it's taken 6 brush coats for the sway bars and there are still some dark spots :banghead: I've left the bottle open overnight, hopefully that will have helped some...
