I got a 97 Civic Coupe. I am installin a head unit on it next week, and I was wondering if any of you guys with the same gen. civic had to get a mounting kit for it. I just don't wanna have to go to the stereo shop to pick one up after I take the dash apart. thanks.

If I remember right, all Civics do not need a dash kit. This goes for Nissans as well. The head units normally have screw holes for the factory brackets to mount up to.

Thats incorrect.. 96+ need install kits..You can get them at Bestbuy Circuit city.. about anywhere like that.. Did you get an EX? with keyless?? if so you are going to have to leave the factory head unit in your car because it also runs the overhead dome light and keyless entry.. you can do it a couple of different ways..

1: put the stock radio back behind the console leaving it hooked up with power..

2: or you can put the new head unit down in the little compartment above the cupholders.. (If you do this you dont need an install kit.)You will have to trim a little around the trim..but not much at all to get it to fit..

Thats cool then.. Im not sure if your dome light will work though.. Im not sure. I would imagine they would be the same way but I dont think the dome light is worth the hassle personally.. cause there are other ways around that..

Good luck..

oh, i thought if I used a harness then it would be ok. I thought only if you bypass the harness thent he domelight won't work

Wassup Fellas!
Well, thanks for your help guys, I installed my headunit today. It took about a half hour. my dome light works and everything. I will take some pics and put em up tomorrow. I also got a question, My friend has an Infiniti G20, (I know, no ones perfect) and when he installed his head unit, and plugged it back in, it didn't work. And later that night, he turned on his lights, none of the interior lights worked. I told him to check the fuses, and when he replaced the blown fuse with the same or higher amperage, they kept blowing. Anybody got any ideas?

Did he use a wiring harness?

You maybe better off asking that question in the G20 Forum..
The only thing I can think of is the obvious. Something is cause to much current the way its hooked up now. Did he splice into anything when he was installing. You could probably use a little bigger fuse although I wouldnt really advice it because you are chancing blowing something. I would check all the wiring around the radio and harness to ensure no bare wires..

Good luck.

Hey, yeah, he used the harness. Well, when he installed it, he blew a fuse he didn't know about, (cuz he didn't unhook the battery) and when he changed that fuse, everything is working fine. Yeah right, I wouldn't ask anything in the G20 Forum. Most of th people there don't know what they are talking about. Lata...
