i just bought a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse the motor was changed out at 57000 and i am at 86000 miles it is making a constant ticking noise and kinda bogs down when i have it in low rpms. i think i need a new camshaft and lifter but im not sure. please let me know if you have any info about this, thanx

Hey, welcome to AF.

What weight oil are you using, and in what location?

It is probably just lifter tick. A slightly thinner oil and regular oil changes maybe enough to quiet it down. Perhaps a brand change. Redline synthetic seems to quiet down lifters, from what I've heard from others. I'm in PA and NY and in the winter, I get lifter tick on startup, until the engine warms up...it's pretty standard as Mitsu only use 1mm oil holes in my vr4 lifters. Dumb engineering.

Curious why the motor was changed out so early as well? And also why you think you need new cam(s)?

i think that i need a new cam and lifters because i have heard from a lot of people that the ticking comes from either the cam or the lifters getting worn down, people have also told me that it could be the valves. as far as the oil thanks on the feedback i will try a diff. oil. i called the dealership that the car was under waranty before i bought it and they said that they replaced the engine because of a knocking in the small block. thanks for your time.
