ok lets see, I am a vw mechanic. When I started working on them I was like haha I'd never buy one of theese pos cars. After 2.5 yrs of working on them I bought one. Has nothing but problems with it and had it in my shop fixing stuff on it for 6 out of the 8 months I owned it. After 8months and 2 months of trying to sell it the damn pos started on fire (electrical fire that is hahah what a 1st for vw) So after my insurance company totalled my gti last week I said I'll never buy one again (unless its a brand new or 2003 or newer because vw didnt make quality cars untill 2003 when there profits were high enough they could actually PAY someone to BUILD there cars good w/o TONS of problems.) I'll just stick to my JAP cars that I have never had issues with. I put 80k miles on my 94 civic and had no issues in 2.5yrs. Sold it and got a 96 corolla and have had 0 issues with that in 3 years.
