Do any knowledgeable forum members know of a retail outlet to buy the additive that makes allows the less expensive Mercon to be used in place of Mercon V? I checked with a couple of trans shops and they all said they used an additive so they could use the cheaper Mercon.
Thanks

My advice is to weigh the cost difference between using the correct fluid versus the cost of using the additive and a tranny rebuild. For the "savings" for the additive, I think spend the little extra for the proper fluid.
The tranny shops are not the ones that will be paying for a tranny rebuild, so of course they'll go with what's cheapest for them.

Listen to Shorod and use the right stuff, nothing else. FYI - Advance Auto now has their own brand of Mercon and Mercon V and it works for me and is the most economical brand I have found.
