Here are some FAQs and general questions I get concerning the procedure which covers the UIM and LIM:

Prior to removing the fuel injectors rails should I disconnect the fuel supply pressure and return lines?
It is up to you but it is recommended to leave the fuel supply pressure and return lines connected to the rails.The fuel rails are removed intact with the fuel injectors. Once removed just set it aside or tie it up where it will be located out of the way. Another recommendation depending on your mileage is to replace the upper and lower fuel injector o-ring seals. Also, if the fuel supply lines are disconnected it is recommended to replace the o-ring seals. A special fuel line compression tool should be used.
I talked to a shop to get an estimate as to cost just in case I decide not to do the work myself. The mechanic told me that certain pushrods will need to be removed in order to remove the lower intake manifold (LIM). Is this true?
This is false. On the SII 3800 which is a GM 90 degree engine the pushrods go through the cylinder heads from the lifter galley therefore no need to remove the pushrods to remove the LIM and worry about adjusting rockers.
However, the GM 60 degree engines like the 3100/3400 require removal of 3 pushrods per bank in order to remove the LIM but that is irrelevant to the SII 3800.
