Hey I am new to this forum and to car modification and I have a question. I plan on installing a new muffler on my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. Iss there a lot of welding involved because I know that there is a technque to that that I don't know. Thanks

Welcome to AF!!
The factory assembly is welded and you will probably need to weld the new one back on. Check with a local muffler shop. They are usually very reasonable as far as the cost to weld or build a new system for you. You didn't say if you have a SE, GT or GTP. One the GT and GTP if you are going to modify the exhaust and a shop is going to do it for you have the U-bend removed. You will see increased performance and better fuel mileage. It really doesn't cost that much to have it done either. If you don't know how to weld let a pro do it for you as exhaust leaks are dangerous.

Thanks for the help. I have an SE. What is the deal with flexable exhaust tubing? Is it worse than normal steel tubes?

Flex tubing is not a good idea. It doesn't hold up well and it causes other issues when it comes time to support it. Stick with the good quality solid piping and you shouldn't have any issues.
