I have a problem with my 96 contour gl 4cyl auto. In the morning when its cold I start the car, go to pull out of my driveway, the car would buck, the engine light would come on and the car would stall. I would then try to start it but would be hard to start, cranking and cranking and pumping the gas untill it finally starts. On my way to work the car would run bad. Wanting to stall at stop signs, down shifting and up shifting like it can't make up its mind on what gear to go into. I had my friend put his scanner on it, it pulled a code from the tps and the temperture sensor. I replaced both sensors, the next morning the same thing happened, I had my friend put the scanner on again and got the same codes. The temp sensor showed a temp of -40 deg. I know it can't be the sensor because I just put a new one on. The only thing i can think of would be an open line or a faulty ecm. I'm leaning towards a bad ecm because an open line would show a check engine light at all times, correct? any ideas?

It sounds like you have a bad connection going to the temp sensor, also what alot of people do is they change the wrong temp sensor as there is one for the PCM and one for the gauge.
