i have had an 04 focus zx3 for about a year now. i'm wondering exactly what kind of engine is in my car and all it says on the engine is "DOHC 16" -- i'm just curious whether i have the 2.0L/130hp or 2.3L/144hp model. i'm also wondering if it's the "zx3 comfort" or "zx3 premium" trim. is there any way to figure this stuff out without original paperwork? i bought it used. should the dealership i bought it from have record of this information?

In my 02 focus, the engine size is written on a sticker under the hood. It has 2.0L on it. I have a premium and as far as I can remember, the premium has alloy wheels and a six-CD changer (?).
What I am confused is zx3 vs zx5. I have a 3-door and I assume it is a zx3. And also, the eighth character in my vin is 3. When I bought the spark plug wires from autozone a few months ago, it didn't fit. The guy told me that I have a zx5.

if it's a three door, it's a zx3. a five door would be a zx5. mine has alloy wheels and a button for a cd changer, but there isnt one installed. it has the blaupunkt mp3 player instead. i've heard some not-so-great things about my stereo on here and despite all that i think it's a bitchin setup considering it's stock. the number 3 is also the eighth character of my car's VIN. i looked under my hood for any kind of sticker or logo to indicate what kind of engine i have, but i couldnt find any. i'll look again. or maybe i'll just accept my car for what it is and end my quest here. i havent decided yet.

A 3 in the VIN code means you have a zetec, a P in the VIN code means you have a SPI. I'm not sure what the code is for the 2.3, but I think it would be obvious.

The 2.3 (and the current 2.0) are Duratecs. It's a pretty obvious difference. Duratec has the intake on the front and the exhaust on the backside of the motor.

i am about 90% sure that the 2.3's only went in the sedan and wagon. if its a hatchback it is probably the 2.0.
hope that helps or maybe someone will stop by and correct me.
