yeah, should work, but as that isnt exactly legal, you might not want to put it on the console. a better place would be on the dash so that it is hidden by the steering column if you are looking in from the drivers side window.
you should get the kind where the switch is illuminated and the cover is up while the tail lights are off. that way you wont forget.

Most people that ask about such things, aren't worried about the legality issues :D
All you are doing it disconnecting the brake switch. Any switch would work, assuming it can handle the amps. At a guess it'll be around 3 amps, so you have a wide range of switches you coulduse

While your disconnecting the brake lights, you might also want to empty the brake fluid reservoir.
Then it will be really cool

I know that he isnt worried about legality now, but the only time i see a use for such a switch is when you are "hiding" at night, or are being chased by cops. you turn out the entire back of the car and have a switch to dim the headlights just enough for you to see. a friend of mine did that and used it to get away once from the cops (which i do not adovocate)
having the switch out of plain sight at least keeps people from asking "Whats that"
another idea would be to find a switch that you never use and re-wire it to cut the tail lights. the switch for the 4-way flashers would work pretty well.

what wires do i need to cut/rewire in order to do that, either with the switch or with the flasher button
what store could i find the switches at and how much should they be ( im in canada) canadian tire?, and are there any other things like this that i could do
and how would i set up a little motor near the lisence plate so that i could switch it to a different one, or put a cover on

I've always found when in doubt on which wires I'm looking for, to just grab a fist full and cut them, and put all the wires in one hand to one side of the switch, and all the wires in the other hand to the other side of the switch. Usually works.

:disappoin This is just ridiculous. I can see myself in court as the moderator defending AF for this one after slappy here gets himself killed when a double-trailer truck plows into his tail because he's outrunning the cops with his brake lights off.
AF won't support, condone, or advise on things which are illegal, stupid, dangerous, or otherwise a pi$$-poor idea. Disabling your brake lights is worth about $300 in fines and possible impoundment of your vehicle. If the cop sees that you deliberately disabled your brake lights it can be reckless endangerment which is confiscation of the car, loss of your license for 5 years, and up to 30 days in prison along with hefty fines. Concealment of your license plate or having the wrong license plate is basically fraud which can get you up to 3 years in jail.
C'mon, little dude, there is no way you're actually going to motorize the license plate on a TOPAZ. Stop yanking our chains and let's be a little less ghetto and a little more mature.
