On my 96 Regal when you shift into drive it locks the door locks, and when you park it and turn off the ignition it unlocks. Is there a way to disable this feature?

Welcome to AF! The procedure below is from the pre- 96 owners manual and may also work on the 96.

The proper procedure is in the 1996 Buick Regal Owner's Manual.

To disable the power door lock feature per the owner's manual here is the procedure verbatim:

If you don't want the doors to unlock automatically when you turn the ignition off, you can remove the LOCK CONTROL fuse in the instrument panel fuse block.

:screwy:Wow, wonder who the Goober was that came up with that solution? This only confirms my suspicions, that the great Engineering minds are long gone from GM. This sounds like something out of a 1956, owner’s manual!

Don't look at me Bo. It wasn't me. I'm only the messenger.

Actually, the GM engineers redeemed themselves with the introduction of the '97.5 - '04 Regal models with the new body control module (BCM) with 4 power door lock modes and better Remote Keyless Entry (RKE).

You all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

Thanks, I will try this. When I got this car the owners manual was nowhere to be found.

Bob, I realize you were "only the messenger here".:iceslolan I would never expect anything that foolish, to come from you personally! I just find it hard to comprehend that anything like that would be printed in an Owner’s Manual as a solution to overcome an unwanted option. This sounds more like somthing from a 2nd grade text book! I wonder, when you “remove the fuse” duh, do you also disable the remote lock ability and the power door lock switch, or is this asinine option on a dedicated fuse?

Let’s imagine, you have two regular drivers of the car and one driver likes the “auto unlock” feature and the other prefers to disable it. The conversation at the breakfast table may go like this; “Honey, I need to drive the Regal today! I realize we are having a blizzard and it is still dark outside with -20 deg below temps, but if you can find that stupid fuse for the door lock’s and install it before I go to work, I would be forever grateful”!:silly:

If the factory did not intend to offer a programmable bypass function, at least they could install a simple switch for a bypass! :screwy:
In fact, if I owned the car, I would install a bypass switch! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/1062.gif (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/%5Bimg%5Dhttp://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/1062.gif%5B/img%5D)

What the hell its Christmas. Send me a PM with your regular email address and I'll send/attach the 96 owner's manual I have which is a PDF file.

:dunno:

I guess seeing is believing. Here is page 2-4 from the 96 Regal Owner's Manual. The 93-96 Regal automatic door lock system doesn't sound too sophisticated let alone how the manuals were written.
