94 taurus lx with premium sound system???

Hello all.I would like to install an aftermarket cd pllayer in a 1994 taurus lx sedan but it has the premium sound system with amps behind the rear seat.Is there a way to bypass these amps so the the speakers would run off the new deck.??Thanks in advance for any info.

Yes, there are bypass kits that allow you to bypass the premium or JBL sound system amplifiers. Should be available from your local car audio shop and maybe even from the major department stores.

I had an 87 with premium sound,, I bought a set-up from Crutchfield which included a wiring harness which bypassed the factory amp... had to run it from front to back, but no real problems doing that... not necessarily endorsing Crutchfield, they're not the lowest in $$$$, but you can get a good deal once in a while on older stuff or discontinued items,, plus they usually have all the bases covered with wiring and install instructions..

Thanks for the quick replys.I bought a scoche kit from walmart that said it was for the premium sound set ups in ford an lincoln but it did not come with any amp bypass wires.Does anyone know what the part# would be and if there is a do it yourself way to bypass the amps.I never realized that the ford systems were so complicated in the way they are wired from the factory.I would like to eliminate the stock amps as my headunit puts out more power to the speakers.But I cant find a damn bypass for the amps..Thanks..:banghead:

If you have the pinouts for the connectors on the amps, you could build your own bypass cable.

It sounds like the adapter you got from Walmart was just for installing an aftermarket deck and using the factory deck wiring, but not for bypassing the amp. I would expect that you can find an amp bypass cable part number by performing a quick Google or Froogle search.
