fibrglass interior

anyone got any advice on fiberglassing interior panels?

its a bitch make sure you use the cloth

any specifics on cloth weight, layer, and such? what wrong with using the mat?

on the vinyl part of the panel you will need to remove the vinyl and then lay down your cloth and mat but for the plastic part (if you have any) its easiest to sand the biatches down till there smooth and then lay primer down, wetsand, paint, clearcoat. i havn't removed any vinyl before so i dont know quite how to do it but i have done the plastic and it works like a charm

if you can remove the windows, it makes the whole proccess that much smoother. it sucks trying to scrape resin off of a window. also pull out any parts inside that you dont plan to replace with fiberglass as it will give you that much more space to work with. if you take the seats out this also gives you a prime time to re-upholster the seats if necessary.

obviously you werent paying attention when i posted that i'm fiberglassing the interior panels. this does not mean that i'm replacing them, nor removing the windows.

this seems to be a pretty general question to me.
so please refine for me, are you putting fiberglass inserts in your panels, or are you making fiberglass panels using your current ones as a form?

your question can mean either of these things

i wasn't too clear earlier, if you want your door panels to have a fiberglass smooth look, then on the plastic parts do what i said earlier, if you want to modify your existing panels to house speakers, screens, etc. then i suggest checking out www.fiberglassforums.com they have a few sticky's on how to do what you are looking for.

alright, so i've got the mat, resin, brush, and the thinner to clean the brush with (along with several other things i'm gonna need). is it neccessary to use the cloth or will the mat be fine?

mat is fine,,just remember to do 3 to 5 layers, and what is your "thinner"?, that should be acetone,,and you need a roller to roll out the air pockets

yes, i wont be forgetting the roller because its so much easier to use than redoing a lot of little spots that bubble up that piss me off

Mix your resin with the hardener. place your cut out pieces of material on the surface and dab resin over the top of each piece with a paint brush as you lay it down. Make sure to cover each piece very well. A piece that wasn't properly covered could cause problems in the long run.
Now you need to use your roller and roll out all the bubble that may be hiding under the fiberglass.
