Saw this on my way to work today....
You can't tell by the pic, but the building in the background is the DMV. The red-haired lady is awfully mad at that rock, for being in the way of and now under her car. She was going too fast into the parking lot and didn't see the curb, high-centering the car on a large decorative rock in front of the building. She laughed when she saw me taking pictures, and panicked when I said I'm from the newspaper. Apparently it's her son's car. We're not running the photos though, they're just for office giggles.
 Like we really need people this dense driving sports cars.

Maybe she went to one of those private drinking clubs before she went to the DMV. Speaking of which is it still the same as it was a few years ago?
The last time one of mates (kiwi for friend) was in Utah he went to go to a bar for a drink to slake his thirst - and discovered me had to 'join' a private club for 2 weeks (5 greenbacks I think) all so he could have a drink.
Then when he asked for a double rum and coke the bartender said that they didn't serve doubles but that he could order a sidecut of rum in a shot glass. This then involved him walking out of his line of sight, pouring the contents of the shot glass into his main drink and wandering back to his seat at the bar. Odd don't you think?
Oh a message for travellers if you ever visit the temple don't put your ACTUAL name and address in the visitors' book - he had some well-meaning but unwanted missionaries visit his address in Auckland about two weeks later - while I was housesitting for him. Nice people but I felt a wee bit grumpy after being woken from a well-earned sleep in.

The missionaries go door-to-door and harass everybody. I have been bothered 3x at least since I moved to my apartments. And I don't drink so I don't know the alcohol thing, I do know that the beer sold here is a lower % alcohol than in any other state.
I don't know why she was going to the DMV, didn't ask, just listened to her complain about the rock being there and "yes maam, don't know why they'd put a rock there, that's insane, stuff happens, etc." until she let me leave. Crazy old bat.

From what I've been told, Utah has some of the nation's worst drivers. True, or do I just hear the worst cases (thru my sis-in-law)?

Has anyone seen the movie Orgazmo? It's a Matt Stone and Tre Parker movie (South Park creators)... Very good stuff.

I think people should be evaluated on their driving ability every few years...

 I didn't know we always disagreed.
I agree with Ci5ic - there should be testing (on-the-road) every few years for every driver - I think they should at least have to review the rules and laws (such as no tailgating, maybe) and possibly have to pass a written exam.
As for Utah's drivers, most are not deliberately bad, they are just completely oblivious to anything more than 3 feet away of them. That is how far behind you they drive on the freeway. That is how close they cut in front of you when passing. They change lanes with reckless (unfortunately not wreckless) abandon, and of course without signalling. They lean down to vacuum the carpet (or something) while driving. The don't secure ANY of their exterior cargo, or anything in the open liftgate of their truck. And the rest are so irritated by the 90% oblivious folks, that they drive like their pants are on fire.
I motion that this woman is relegated to driving an Aspire or a Metro until her skills improve..any seconds?

Based on my reaction to seeing what kind of car it was, I'd give a hearty second to that motion.

I can attest to that Utah drivers are very very bad. Polygon will atest to this. Go in the racing forum and look at his car. An a week later after the accident i lost half my tires' tread bracking when an old lady made a left turn at an intersectionand didn't yield to me even though i was honking like mad. She looked at me trought the black smoke of my tires
shrugged and continued on her way.

Screw the Metro or Aspire...she needs one of those old Fiat 800's or something..the one with the 20 HP that you can buy in GT2. That way you can see the dingy broad a mile away making her fuck-up, have time to stop at Starbucks, do some laundry at the Sit-N-Spin, pick up the kids from school, and make sure you get out of her way.

OK, so we have this section in our local newspaper called The Vent, it's so people can anonymously vent about stuff. Lately people have been venting about the drivers. Here's one driver's response:
Southern Utah Driver said: People always complain about us Southern Utah drivers. I am one of them, and I never use my blinkers because I'm afraid dorks like you will follow me if you know where I'm going. I also honk my horn regularly because if you think I'm going to hit you, you're more likely to drive the speed limit. Move if you don't like it.
Why thanks, Southern Utah Driver, I think I will.:bloated:

Reminds of the lady who honked at me and nearly knocked me over when I was riding my road bike. When we got to the next set of traffic lights, she wound down her window and told me I shouldn't be on the road because I was a cyclist and in her way...
This was despite the fact I was in the cycle lane on the road and I was doing more than the speed limit - and keeping up with the traffic. Which is what I pointed out.
She then obviously was very annoyed and then went absolutely berserk when I told her she shouldn't have been on the road as her car had no registration, no warrant of fitness (an annual roadworthiness certificate) and that the two tires I could see were bald.
She then said "What are you going to do about it c**t?!!!" before she drove off.
At the time I was working for the local municipality - So I finished my ride to the office and went upstairs to the traffic department, logged on, checked the details of her registration off her licence plate and issued two tickets totalling $350, put them in an envelope and mailed them off to her.
And felt better for it.
