This is not on dry pavement is it? The entire drivetrain will bind up, vibrate then start wearing out parts very fast.

yea it was. i don't really have anywhere to try it off road. was about 30 mph. it never twisted like that with the old axle or whined. just seems like with the new one it does. but before i pulled the old one out it was doing it but never did it before i hit the curb. maybe something was loose in the diff and it put back in and started the whine. so is there any other way to check it and make sure all is fine?

What did you do and what exactly was changed? This a 3 button 233 case and if a replaced front diff were the gears same as rear 3.42 or 3.73?

same gears. its a 95 iwith the auto 4x4 but not the new style. driverside cv axle was changed. front axle and last night i changed out the hub since it was bad. and ratio was 3.42 and i comparied it to the one that came out and both were the same.

I check my Dodge in the grass (and snow when I get some). Wet the grass, drive the car into the grass, put it 4wd, pull it up then back it up several feet to be sure the transfer case has finished all it's shifting, stomp the pedal for a halfa second...just enough to turn the tires, pull up out of the way then get out and check yer spin marks in the grass.

well i know its working i just want to make sure its ok with the whine to it. could it be its not going in all of the way? i had some probs with it last year not coming out cause the vac switch would stick open. and still does.

I'd be worried if mine started whining. You might check the lube oil levels in both differentials and the transfer case and check for metal flakes...other than that, the transfer case and/or the front differential needs to be took apart and inspected IMO.
All help here gratefully accepted.

my old one did it right before i dropped it and i took apart the new front axle and all was fine. gears looked better then the old one. so i don't think thats the prob. only does it when put in to 4x4. vac line discontnected the vac line from the front diff and no whine but as long as the fronts pulled in it whines.

If the front actuator only partially engages the collar on the pass axle it will whine. Put the new $15 transfer case 3 port vac switch in and see if that fixes it. NP233 case encoder motor steps to switch the vac and connect the front driveshaft on for 4Hi then steps again to drop the low gear in for 4Lo.
Cheap part fix first and with the Blazer running have someone push the 4Hi dash switch (after new vac switch) and see if the front driveshaft locks up that means the front actuator locked - then 2wd and see if it unlocks again.

i know the shaft is locking up and un locking. just the axle is having problems. i'm gonna change the switch as soon as i can and let you know what happens.

ok. today a changed the idler arm cause it was super loose and had tons of steering slop. all went good but if i'm heading down the road and let go of the wheel it wont go straight. i have to turn the wheel myself. is this norm for it being new? but back to the axle, later today after i changed that i was heading down the road and around 30 mph i got like a little bit of a vibration from the front. not a wheel but almost like maybe the other cv axle is going out. could that also be causeing my whine? and what else could it be. anything over 40 and its gone and its like a thudding and the faster i go the faster it goes until like 40-45 then its gone. any ideas?

Did you bend the backing/dust plate on the front brakes or the caliper mounting bracket when you hit the curb? Is the whine the PS pump? Front wheel bearings?

its not a bearing whine. it only happens in 4x4. as for the backing plate i just replaced the hub on that side which comes with a new backing plate so thats fine. and its not the ps pump.

also found today that the boot on the passanger side has busted a little and is starting 2 spill its grease. could that cause my thudding? i think i stressed it to much when i pulled the axle out.
