Hey guys, my uncle was telling me about a 93' camaro that arrived at his work with a blown motor, he could get it really cheap for me and put in another motor pretty cheap. I think I would just get an LT1 out of another camaro of a similar year for it. I have no experience with camaro's as far as the engines and such go, but i've always wanted one, so I was wondering how hard it is to maintain the LT1? I heard the plugs are a fair bit difficult to change. Also, how hard is work like waterpump replacement and stuff like that? I also have seen people here and there complain about the optispark, is it really that big of a problem? Thanks for any info.

opti sparks got a unfair rap, they are actually very accurate ignition devices and typically last 100K + but due to a design flaw of having the water pump weep hole mounted directly above it. They are prone to getting soaked by a failing water pump. This is not the fault of the opti but the fault of the water pump and a problem that can usually be solved by switching to a electric water pump which eliminated the weep hole.
The engine is very cramped. So any typical maintance or service items will be more difficult to change than a typical vehicle. As long as you have average or better than average mechanical ability , you will be fine getting items done given you leave yourself the approriate amount of time.
