i have 97 grand caravan that recently started stumbbling and stalling then the "service engine soon" light cam on and stayed on . i made an apointment to takre it to the dealer and in the morning the light was out . i took the van in any way and theservice associate told me to come back if it came on again it was probably a loose gas cap.
i checked codes myself via reader after the dealer told me to come back if the engine needs service light came back on.and the stored code was a P0340. cam shaft position ithink.any sugestions
thank you

First, welcome to the forum. Second, stay away from that dealer as is true of most dealerships. Third, yes a P0340 is "no camshaft signal detected during engine cranking". Recommend you disconnect and clean the connection at the cam sensor and inspect the wires leading to it. If that doesn't take care of it, change the cam sensor.
You can read basic MIL code info in your driveway. Turn your key from off to on three times then leave it on (not start). Count the flashes of the service engine soon light on the dash. Flash, pause, flash, flash is code 12. All codes are 2 digits. There will be a longer pause between codes. Code 12 and 55 are normal. DRB code P0340 equates to Mil code 54. Autozone will read the DRB codes using a scanner free of charge.
Specific sensor info: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/1a/40/69/0900823d801a4069.jsp Hope you don't have the 3.0 ltr engine . You have to change the distributor if the cam sensor is bad. Brings up another point. Please remember to post your engine size and type transmission with any driveability related issue. Cheers!
