Where Can I Find A 1997 Camaro Ss Model? Please Help

Hello there, someone I know on Cardomain is looking for a 1997 Chevy Camaro SS model. DIECAST OR PLASTIC. she wants a 97 SS AND ONLY A 97 SS, preferably in BLACK. she wants it to match her ride. here are a few pics.

My wheels are stock for the 97' SS;

I don't want the convertible;

and the 93-97 are the same and have the same body style, but I would need an SS hood - and they only made them on the 96 and 97's.

So if anyone can find a 96 then it might be similar, but the 96's were the Z28/SS, not just the SS, as the 97 was.

If I was to bash a few kits together, I would still need the 97 hood.

And I can't use the 98 and up, as they are the new (35th Anniv) style with the bubbled headlights, and the SS hood is a little different. :)

As for a 97', you may not be in luck. I have not seen that particular year anywhere as I also want one. I have found the 30th anniversary ones, but they have the redone front end (bubble headlights).

You're out of luck for that specific YEAR, AMT made a '97 Camaro SS, but it's a convertible.

However, all 93-97 Camaros are essentially the same and you can build that car from any year of them. Both AMT and Revell made tons of these cars from 93-97. You'd then just have to find the decals, or mask it off and paint the stripes yourself.

AMT also makes a snap-tite kit of it as well, if you're not worried about engine detail.

EDIT: and the wheels he has on it appear to be the SS wheels from the later 98+ Camaro SS, of which kits are readily available too.

AMT was supposed to re-release the '97 30th anniversary kit, which should have the correct front end(and other minor differences)

I didn't even pay attention to what body style it was.....

A thought would be to use one of the AMT '95 or '96 Z28 kits to donate the body and use the hood, interior, chassis, and drivetrain from the '97 convertible kit.

I think you're thinking of the 35th anniversary ones, with the later front end.

thanx for the reply, but my friend said she definetely wants a 97 cuz it's the 30th anniversary and that's the year of her camaro.

I think you're best bet is to kit bash a couple kits. At $5-15 on ebay and in stores, it's not that expensive.

I had to do it to replicate my 1:1 '72 Vette coupe....one kit for the body/chassis/drivetrain, another for the early C3 small block hood, and a third kit for the correct pattern on the seats.

AMT did indeed produce a '97 T-top SS that was red on the boxcover. Its hood scoop was a little tall and angular, and the tires (BFG's specific to that kit only) were a little high in profile. Otherwise, it's pretty close to what CRL is looking for:

Well, I was referring to the 30th anniversary convertible, either way. I haven't seen the kit you have there before, so there we go. Wonder how rare it is.

I have one, would have built it before but the crappy hood and wheels kept me from building yet. My skills to fix it are better now :icon16: I bought a few extra Monogram Grand Sport Corvettes for the good wheels (the '98 SS can use 'em too).

The AMT hood fit is lousy, has many sink marks from the underhood detail, and the leading edge of the scoop is far too thick.

I don't think it would be too much money on ebay. It's not a really desireable kit and there's a number of other Z28 and SS models available in different years. Most folks aren't going to be too picky about the details.

Now, being that it was a kit that is oop and hasn't been reissued, it may be more of a matter of trying to find one.

Yeah, man, I knew the hoods on both were screwed - but because Lindberg had always botched the upper headlight line on the leading edge of its panel, it never occurred to me to compare the scoops! The fit is bad on my AMT kit as well, but it didn't have such a problem with ghosting - that may depend on how the plastic cooled from one injection of the mold to the next.

Didn't Lindberg also play with the mold halves of their G@@&Y#%& gatorback master to fudge up a set of BFG's? I bet AMT's Goodriches were also a me-too response, but at least they were freshly tooled. If they could be hogged out, they might prove useful for late Impala SS's, too - leastways, that's what Larry Greenberg was thinking.

I had a similar notion about Corvette 5-spokes. I was looking a little harder at AMT wheels, which had a more exaggerated bead to offset the too-small wheel diameter, but the Monogram wheels sound like a better idea in the end.

Sad thing is, my brother had a 97 SS T-top. Too bad he chopped it up.
The rims in that kit are crappy. They don't look close to the real thing.

I have that kit, let me know if you can't find it. Its not mint, but it hasn't been started. It has an extra set of clear parts and decals but i think its missing the e-brake. Only problem is I live in Australia...
