1998 Blazer 4WD question

I was driving home in icy conditions and I used my 4WD (4Hi) to get home. When I parked the car and switched it back to 2WD everything seemed fine. The next morning while driving in 2WD, I heard something like a tire rubbing in my front right wheel well. Nothing is rubbing in the wheel well, but I assume that something happened when I was driving in 4WD that is causing this. The rubbing starts at around 15 MPH and only gets worse if I keep driving.

Any ideas what this is?

Try driving in 4hi and see if the noise goes away.

try turning your front driveshaft with the engine running and the truck in 2wd. If it will not turn then the front axle did not disengage and the pinion and ring gear are still turning.

It might be possible that the transfer case didn't disengage. To better verify the problem, jack up one front wheel and spin it to see if it turns the driveshaft.

If your front axle is not disengaging, the most probable cause is a stuck vacuum switch on top of the transfer case. A relatively cheap and easy fix to replace it. You can take it out with a 7/8 wrench and see if the plunger is stuck pushed in. Sometimes you can get them to pop out and work for awhile, but it's best to just replace it.
