MN meet this summer? **UPDATED 4/8/07!!!**

Whats up guys, remember the idea for a Minnesota/area meet last year? What does everyone think of doing it again? If I remember right, there is like 6 MN area regulars and like 4 not so regulars. If we can get a bunch of people up for it I can talk to LSE about a dyno day. I know I would be down for a couple dyno pulls, when we do this I want to have my Talon done and a couple dyno pulls would be good to let me know where I'm at. We dont need to do a dyno day either, I know not all of us would want that. We could just meet and hang out, grill out, go for a cruise, go to a track, party up, one day or two day, you know whatever. I would be down for anything as long as my DSM works by then. One thing though, I am running a marathon mid June so anytime before that isnt too great for me since I need to be training then. I think a little extra time would also give other people that need to fiinish up their shit *cough* Garrett *cough*. So what does everyone think?

I guess I would propose that we do it last week in June on like a Tuesday or Wednesday (easier to get off work) and meet in a park at like 2-4 in the afternoon. We could bullshit for a few hours and grill some steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs or what have you. We could roam the streets for a few hours and maybe crash at a hotel or a camp ground. Then we get on the next day and either depart or go to Rock Falls (or another track) and put down a few passes before we go our separate ways that night.

Also, I dont want this to get blown way out of proportion. Frankly, I dont care if theres stuff other than DSM's that show up, like for example an SRT4 or a RX7 (Scott and Lucky if its not too far of a drive), but I do want this to be an AF DSM section meeting you know? I can understand if a couple people want to bring a good car buddy of theirs, but I want everyone to pretty much know each other. So anyway, whos down?

If it's in June for sure and won't cross over into July, I should actually be good to go, especially if it's northern Minnesota. I'd like a BBQ than a cruise. It's not too far for me to get lost lol, but let's try and not make this complicated :) ..but, the only reason for me not to go, is if my car takes a shit, but it shouldn't.. I think. Either way, I'm down, I could just take a plane and drive a rental car or something lmao. May I also suggest that if this does happen, that we create a thread with a picture of everyone attending (just one picture, no comments either, so only one post from anybody going). I know there's a general thread like this somewhere on the forums, but it's crowded with comments and pictures of people probably not going IIRC. I'd just like to avoid the awkwardness of walking up to Brian and calling him Dustin or something hehe :)

I'm down for sure. Maybe I'll have some wider tires by then haha. I definatly want to get a few runs on the dyno sometime whether it be before or during the meet. I'm shooting for 300fwhp but I expect maybe 280 on pump

Id so be up for a dyno day and track day thing. My talon will be turboed by then hopefully. I could just follow scott he knows long distance roads better then me (I think).

Where are we gonna have it just out of curiosity?

Thor06
12-13-2006, 04:09 AM
Ahhh yes, location. Well, a central location sucks ass. We've got one guy way up in Canada, me in north central mn, eastern ND, apparently a few in southern mn, and I am sure a few will surface from the twin cities area. It really depends who posts up, but it looks like the most central location is going to be like Detroit Lakes or Fargo or something like that. Thats fine, there is a tuning shop (maybe two?) in Fargo and there is a track just outside of Fargo in a little town called Sabin. Fargo will work, there is still a big enough population so have some people with cars done right to be some fun to cruise with, the shop is a reputable shop, and there is a the track (its a shit hole), but everything is just scaled down from doing it in the cities. Here in the cities, there is a lot more car guys/girls to see (as well as an ass ton of DSMers), theres atleast 3 good performance shops that are known for doing DSM's, and Rock Falls is a good track.

So guys, looks like we have a choice. I personally dont care where it is, it'll still be fun to hang out with you guys. The problem I see with Fargo is its just smaller than the cities for less people to "run into" out cruising and I think you can take like .15 or someting off your ET just because the track isnt prepped good or in the best of shape, but in reality who cares? The cities would be nice because there is 3 good DSM shops, a good track, and plenty of space but its sooo much driving more most of the people to just get here. Then once we all find the meeting spot we may get lost on the cruise. Also, Rock Falls track is another 2.5 hours east of Minneapolis (I think) so that just adds to the driving for everyon especially the guys outside the cities.

I guess if it means anything to anyone, I am swinging for Fargo. The track will be much less busy and its like 20 minutes away rather than like 2 hours away, plus meeting up in Fargo will be 10x easier than in Minneapolis area. The other thing all us north of the Twin Cities could do (as well as the people south if they wanted) is meet at an easy to find spot and drive into a Twin cities spot together.

So heres what I want from everyone planning to show up.

I'm in!
Location: North central MN
Where you would rather go: Fargo
Short explanation why: Easier to find, more central
Would you go if it was in the other spot: Fuck yeah!

That way we can get a sense of who is coming, where you all want to do it, and where the best spot would be. Also, you should put at the bottom other AF DSM members you know of that havent shown themselves yet. Post up bitches!

Also, I guess we dont need to get this hammered out this week, this month, or even really this season. We could wait a while to start getting the details set, but I still want to know who and from where people are coming.

Location: Regina, SK, Canada
Where you would rather go: N/A
Short explanation why: Don't worry about the guy up north, I can only attend if I still have my car (I'm selling it to get a new car). If I can't sell it by June, then I'll come for sure. If not, I can probably bring my pimpin' Nissan anyway :D Fargo sounds fine to me, I'm used to the openess anyway :P
Would you go if it was in the other spot: Depends.. rotaries = gas guzzlers :)

OT - How's the traffic in the States? It would be nice if I could get a better understanding on how early I should leave home to meet with you guys . If it is Fargo, I wouldn't imagine anything more than an 8-10 hour drive... I hope.

I'm in!
Location: South central MN
Where you would rather go: Minneapolis
Short explanation why: Easier to find, I know my way around better and IMO there is more things to do and more likely I'll be able to go because srt=alot of gas
Would you go if it was in the other spot: Probably maybe I dont know
My buddy with the 383 camaro might join us to, but its not for sure yet

Location: South MN
Where you would rather go: Fargo
Short explanation why:Seems less busy still has a tuning shop. More people could get there.

I also can bring a friend too.

GSX_RIDER, you should make up one of those little dealies for me, sometime I am going to make a map of the midwest and put x's where people are and where people woud be willing to go so we can shit figger'd out.

gthompson97
12-14-2006, 12:00 AM
Location: Grafton, ND/Fargo, ND Grafton in summer, Fargo for school
Where would you rather go: Doesn't matter to me. Fargo wouldn't be bad being as I live here in the winter and 2 hours away in the summer. The thing is, the "tuning" crowd around here is more a Honda crowd. The shop you're talking about, I'm guessing that's Tintmasters Motorsports? It's a decent shop, but probably nothing that you guys are used to. They tint windows and install *some* performance parts, but I'm not sure how keen they would be on having a big group of DSMers in town just hangin out at the shop. And that track in Sabin, it's not a bad track, but it's kind of located in the middle of nowhere, so if you wanted to go to the store quick or something, expect to travel 10-15 mins.
I'd be down for goin to the Cities, I haven't been to the Mall of America or Valley Fair for a few years so I'd definitely make a trip out of it.

Honestly, I doubt the Talon will be done by end of June/early July, but who knows, maybe I'll kick my ass in gear and get'er done one of these days (with another 10k in funds too), but I'd still come anyways. The only problem I have is that I most likely wouldn't be able to just go during the middle of the week. June/July is big spraying time for us (I'm a farmboy remember), and it's very critical to get things done on a day to day basis, so unless it rains or something, I'd have a tough time getting off during the week. The weekend on the other hand, I'll be down for anything from Friday morning - Sunday night.

yeah i'm down for it too, as long as im not working like last time, my gst should still be running by then but we'll see.

as for the place.

location: central MN.
why? more stuff to do more shops if we decided to do a dyno day. and there's rockfalls raceway, brainerd raceway.
but i think anywhere is fine.

Thor06
12-14-2006, 09:05 PM
I second or third or whatever the hooters thing, however I like the idea of grilling out too. Maybe grilling at a park the first day and hooters for lunch the second day or vice versa? Park the first day would be nice, some of us could get there early and not look like a pervert hanging around all day waiting for the others.

I will try to track down dates of test and tune days at Sabin, BIR, and Rockfalls, that might have to dictate where we do it.

Guys, this meeting alone is one of the major motivations to get the DSM running. Not because I am sick of DSM'ing, I am just that freakin excited about meeting up and hangin out.

Perfect photo op at hooters to.

L-Spec
12-14-2006, 10:59 PM
I think meeting at a park would best... everyone would be by their cars and everyone would just simply be easier to spot out.

Just a question: What time of day are we planning to meet up? Late afternoon? *nudge nudge*

Thor06
12-15-2006, 12:09 AM
Ha ha, yeah. Let me check on track schedules. People dont seem to care where we get down so where ever has test n tune days is where it'll go down. I think we'll probably start gathering at an easy to find park probably like 2-4pm. We'd probably kick it there until like 8ish then head into the neares big city and ride, then crash at a hotel whenever we want. Next day we'd get up and head to the nearest track after a little hooters action :).

Thor06
04-08-2007, 06:08 PM
Alright yall, I finally have a free few minutes to get shit in a pile. Actually I dont, I will be up an extra 2 hours or so tonight because of this, but thats ok :p. Anyway, we need to get the ball rolling on this and make some crucial decisions. Things we need to decide: date, times, location(s), what we are going to do, where we are going to stay, and how long the meet is going to be. Here we go.

Date: Its going to have to happen in July, preferrably between like the 9th and the 30th. We cant do it that first weekend, shit would be busy as hell with the 4th and all. We cant really go before hand as many of us have to finish up our cars and we really cant go in August as most of us are going to be getting ready for school and shit. When it happens in July is going to depend upon what we want to do.

Locations: Theres pretty much 3 options here, either Fargo, Brainerd, or Minneapolis. Fargo has a close track (~20 minutes) and a decent scene, but the track is pretty shitty and there is no close dyno. Brainerd has little to no scene and the closest dyno is 2 hours away but there is a nice track right fucking there. Minneapolis has a huge scene and like 6 dyno's around but the closest track is Rock Falls (like 1.5 hours east) and Brainerd (2 hours north). So there is some options to weigh out.

What to do?: So what do you all want to do? We can dyno, cruise, race, grill out, hooters, its all good. It will get expensive quick though if we want to dyno, cruise, and race all in the same couple days so I think we gotta make a decision: dyno or race. Personally, I say fuck dynoing lets race. What do you guys think?

Cost is going to be a big factor of this, we gotta keep it as cheap as possible. Dyno days are typicaly $60 for 3 pulls. Rock falls and BIR both have test n tune days we could possibly do. The Rock Falls ones are the 14th and 15th and entry fees are $69. The ones at BIR are on the 11th and 25th and only cost $20. Then theres lodging, where are we going to stay? Hotels could get kinda expensive unless we piled all of us into one or two. I dont know how many of you guys want to be crammed 2 or 3 per bed with a bunch of guys you just met though :p. Camping would be cheap as shit, but I dont know what we would do about our cars. Camping and hotels will be (obviously) available at all the places.

I think this should be a 2 day meet to keep costs and time away from work down. If we decide we want to hit up the track, our dates are possibly either the 13th and 14th, 14th and 15th, the 10th and 11th, or the 24th and 25th. If we dont want to race, we can do it pretty much any couple days after like the 8th of July. I think we shouldn't do it during the weekend as (I think) many of us will have to work weekends plus a meet during the week woul be a lot less general people and less cop trouble. After looking at all of this here is what I think we ought to do:

Thor's Proposed Meet:

When: July 10th and 11th
Where: Minneapolis/Brainerd

Tuesday: We could meet at a campground somewhere in the general Minneapolis/St. Paul vicinity on Tuesday in like mid after noon. We can then procede to BS, set up camp, and what not and get our grill on. After food we can hop in our cars and go for a cruise around Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Whenever we see fit to be done, we can head back to the campground and crash.

Wednesday: We could get up some time Wednesday morning and bull shit some more. By around 1 we should break camp and roll out. We could get some Hooters for lunch, followed by maybe a couple pictures with some Hooters chicks? ;) By like 2:30 we should leave the cities and head north to Brainerd. We would get to Brainerd by a little before 5 pm for the Wednesday Night Street Drags. The good thing about the street drags is that they are only $20 for as many runs as you want between 5pm and sunset. EDIT: OHH YES! I also just found out BIR opens the road course for the Wednesday Night Street Drags! Yeah, now we pretty much HAVE to go there! /EDIT Whenever we are done racing we can leave and go home.

What do you guys think about that? It will be fairly cheap, camping will be dirt cheap but it depends on how many people come. Racing will only be $20 so then its just however much the Hooters bill is (I bet like $10) and however much gas your car takes. If the 10th/11th dont work, we could do it on the 24h/25th as well.

So who all could come to that? I think before I said that I wanted to keep it to just us, but I would like to change that. If you guys have a buddy you want to bring thats cool, but lets each keep it to one MAYBE two friends. If you have a person or two you want to come PLEASE let me know. I updated the proposed plan to include who is going to be there. What I need from people coming:

-Who all is coming (you and one or MAYBE two friends)
-Where you are coming from, city is not important but general direction and distance from Minneapolis/St Paul is
-What you will and your guest will be driving
-Where you would prefer to stay

Also, please contact me via PM about who may be coming with you.

So here goes for me:
Who is coming: I will be there with my buddy Eric.
Rolling: My 90 TSI AWD if its road worthy by then, Eric will either be in his current 95 Del Sol or a 2g MR2 if he can find one by then
From: Just about straight north of the cities, about 225 miles
Camping or Hotel: Camping bitch!

L-Spec posed an interesting situation when we were talking about the meet. How would people completely unfamiliar with the area make it to the meeting spot? It might be hard enough for those of us that have been in MN for a while, but it would be especially tough for people unfamiliar with even the most traveled highways and cities along the way. I thought it would be good for those of us that are unsure to meet up and roll in together. For example, Lucky, Eric, and I will meet up and travel down together (Garrett, want to meet us somewhere on the way to the cities?) and if some of you southerners and inner city guys want to do the same knowing who is where would be a good way to find a central meeting spot.

If you guys know the aforementioned guys that we havent heard from yet and can get ahold of them via email, AIM, MSN, phone, etc please do!

blk_srt

Who is coming: I will be there maybe my buddy Ryan and my friend Noah
Rolling: The neon with some more extras by then and Ryan will be rolling his 93 383 built and sprayed 'maro and Noah would be riding with me. It would be one or the other
From: Straight south of the cities about 110 miles
Camping or Hotel: Camping or hotel doesnt matter

We could also meet somewhere like the Mall of America so people could map quest it.

I don't really care where we have it, I'm down for anything. I should be able to go as long as I can take off some time from the farm. If it happened to rain here like the 2 days we're planning that would be absolutley perfect. Anyways, I like the camping idea, and if it's after the 15th I'll be 21, so that'd be even better! I think it'd be cool to do like what Scott said, meet at Mall of America or Valley Fair or something like that (and I haven' been to either of them for like 5 years, haha). If I can get the Talon done, I'd probably trailer it there, just because I always seem to have problems with my cars on long roadtrips, and if the Talon isn't done, then I'll be takin the Monte most likely. Anyways...

Who is coming: Me, and maybe a buddy or 2. This will most likely be a "last minute" thing, just because that's how my friends and I work.
Rollin: Talon on Monte
From: Fargo, ND
Camping or Hotel: Doesn't matter to me. Camping would definitely be fun, and much cheaper, as long as the weather is nice.
