installing injector

hi all. i was wondering how you guys install injectors on the 2.2L? its a 1997 chevy s10. is there a special tool to get them in, or something? thanks in advanced

There's no mention of an installation tool for the injectors in the Service Manual...looks like a coupla o-rings seal each injector and they're all held with the Fuel Injector Retainer Bracket.

hmm. alright. i was just asking, because my buddy has done a couple of injectors on this truck and he just uses the handle of a screwdriver and pounds them in lightly with a hammer. and, now they leak, so i didnt know if maybe there was some type of tool to press them in or what. but, ok, thanks for the info.

It wouldn't hurt anything to smear a little grease on the surfaces that fit into the holes and o-rings.

There is no special tool. Remove the long clip rail (three or four screws, IIRC) and all the injectors should be able to pull out,sometimes with a little assistance from a small prybar or screwdriver tip. I've removed the side-feed injectors on several of these and they do tend to stick in their bores, but be very careful about prying them out since the bodies are plastic.

The 'O' rings need to be lubricated with clean engine oil before installing the injectors.

Also, be careful about the replacement injectors. 1997 was about the time these injectors were switched from saturated type to peak/hold injectors. Physically, they are identical except for the part numbers. Electrically, they are worlds apart. If the injectors measure about 12-16 ohms solenoid coil resistance, and the replacements measure about 1-2 ohms, you have a mismatch.

so do all the injectors have to be 12-16 ohms? what if i replaced all injectors and they were 1-2 ohms? is it ok as long as they are all the same type, or does the enginge not work with those lower ohm injectors? hopefully i made sence in those questions

If the original injectors are about 16 ohms, they are saturated injectors and the PCM has drivers for that type injector. If the originals are between 1-2 ohms, they are peak/hold injectors and require a different driver circuit. You cannot interchange the injector types without changing the driver circuit. There are aftermarket injector driver modules available which would make the change easier, but simply installing the correct injector would be best. The propagation delay of the aftermarket drivers is suspect, even though some are adjustable.

ok, thanks for the info. we replaced the injectors, the originals were 12 ohms, and the ones we bought were 12, so everything is good now. except, now the oil pressure is way low. at idle when hot, the check gauges light comes on, then when you take off it goes off. when the engine is cold it runs a little over 40, but hot below 20, under acceleration a tad bit over 20. im thinking oil pump, but maybe im wrong, hopefully.
