I assume since the car is an 87 it has a carb.... The filter is in the carb.

Correct, the filter is behind the fitting the fuel line connects to on the carb.

but make sure you have a 1 inch wrench, thats the size of the big nut on the carb, I cant remeber the fitting size one. but make sure you turn the fitting with a linebreaker wrench while holding the big nut still
Learned that lesson the hard way, now I have a 1 foot section of rubber hose were a steel one should be. lol.

 Sounds familiar. Can't remember exactly how many '70s and early '80s GMs I owned that looked like that.Got to love the fact that the previous owners of these vehicles probably rarely changed the fuel filter causing the nut and fitting to give you so much trouble.

Is your car a carb'd V8 though?
If it's a TBI V6, then yes that's where it should be.

i thought mine was in a brass piece that screwed into the front of the carb.
i had to use two screwdrivers to get it off.

I follow that line and it runs to the brake booster there is no filter, is there a chance the filter is in my gas tank..... but i'm not sure so does anyone have and pics of where it is located?

No, that is a Qjet. The angle should be the same on any Chevrolet Q-jet carb.
