i know that there have been dozens of posts about how to locate the code to the keyless entry on the door.

i have checked by the jack and saw nothing...

i also opened my glove compartment and saw a 4 digit number... when i press it into the door nothing happens.

I know that the door works beacause if i hit

7/8 9/0

at the same time, the doors lock...

is there ANYWHERE else or any other way to figure this out?

thanks

What year and style Explorer do you have?

Yes, the code is on a sticker affixed to the keyless module. The keyless module is not located directly behind the panel by the jack, but forward of the opening. You need to remove the jack access cover, grab a bright light, then look ahead of the opening for the module. The module will be located kind of in the area beside the rear seat (assuming you don't have the Sport Trac) and is often white in color.

You should also check your owner's manual if you have it. A previous owner may have written the code on it or stuck a duplicate sticker to it. The code will be a 5-digit code.

I realize I'm a week behind your post, but here goes...

I have an '01 Sport Trac, and I found my keyless entry code by 1) disconnecting the battery, 2) waiting 5 minutes for any residual electricity to drain, 3) dropping the glove box, 4) removing the passenger side airbag, revealing a white module, 5) removing the screws holding in the white module and reading/recording the 5-digit code on the upper side of it.

Reverse the steps (except for #2) to put it all back together.

Took me 15 minutes and saved me $120 the dealer wanted to do it.

There is a guy on eBay that is a Ford tech who will e-mail a .pdf file on how to locate the code for your specific vehicle. About $15 - $20. A very good investment.

isnt there a universal code that all fords use? i used to work in a small shop and there was this one guy who worked there who thought he was awesome because he could lock and unlock any ford with the keypad... he wasn't really that awesome, but that's another story.

Did the guy ever demonstrate his ability to unlock any Ford with the keypad? There is a universal "code" to lock the doors on and Ford product with the keypad, but I'm not aware of a universal code to unlock them all.

There is a factory default code for the keypad remote entry, and the owner can program in their own additional code. The factory default code will always remain active, but it is not the same for each vehicle. The manufacturer should be able to provide the owner with the default code based off the VIN number and hopefully some identifying information.

On newer Fords, a high end scan tool can also retrieve the factory default code.

Confirmed Explorer Sport Trac 2001 to 2005 have RKE module behind pass side air bag. Modules interchange 2001-2005.
