Factory Alloy Wheels

Hi Folks, a little technical question here regarding factory rims.

Our 1998 T&C LX AWD came with a set of five 16"x6-1/2" factory steel rims. The original factory wheel covers have long since fallen off. The steel rims are configured in such a manner that the distance between the interior mounting surface at the hub and the inside edge of the rim is 5-1/2 inches. This gives me a clearance of 1-1/4 inches between the inside sidewall and the suspension component at each wheel.

I found and purchased a set of four 16"x7" Chrysler allow wheels with the same exterior pattern as those that came on the 1998 T&C. I am not sure what car these rims came on originally. The distance between the interior mounting surface at the hub and the inside edge of the alloy rim is 6 inches. If I put my existing tires on these rims, I calculate that the clearance between the inside sidewall and the suspension component at each wheel will be reduced by 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch.

It appears to me that these replacement alloy rims should work on the T&C. But I certainly wish I had a way to verify that the rims I got are truly compatible with my van. If anyone out there has any input on this, I would certainly appreciate it.

If all else fails, I do know that these rims have the same bolt pattern as my 1964 Chryslers and I might try to see if they fit on the old beasts.

As long as you don't experience any interference issues once the tires are mounted on the vehicle then you shouldn't have any problems. 3/4 of an inch is acceptable. Try putting one on the front and turning lock to lock. If there is no rubbing then you are good to go. On the rear check for suspension travel. If the car does not rub when going over bumps then the rims should work just fine.
