Anyone used a Unorthodox underdrive pulley on their SR20DET? Are they are the same pulley used on the SR20DE? Also, who has the best price on them? That is if it works for the DET.
TIA,

I am using the 2 pulley set with my BB DET. You cannot use them with the GTi-R engine however.

You're the man Geo :D I appreciate the info. Now, how much do they run in terms of pricing?

The list price for the two pulley set is $259

Here is a question though - if you just get the two pulley set, do you need a different sized belt? I've read conflicting reports, some saying you do, and some saying that you only need a different belt for the four pulley set.
Can anyone confirm either way?

Absolutely, you need a new set of belts for the 2 pulley set. SE-R.net has the belt sizes listed.
IMHO pulleys are a wonderful mod. The only downside is reduced AC at idle. Big deal. In fact, anyone doing lapping should definitely run them since they slow down the waterpump. This is very important since the waterpump cavitates at high rpm. So underdriving the waterpump actually improves the cooling at high rpm. :)
What's really great is it adds power and throttle response without adding noise or other nasty things. :D

Thats why I'm getting a set! :D
I just wanted to know whether or not the two pulley set needed a different belt or not. Logic told me that it did, but a couple of sites said that it didn't so I needed to check before hand. I'm ordering the pulleys from America when I live over here in the UK, so I need to make sure I get it all right first time.

The part numbers that UR lists are:
Alternator and A/C - 91- 98 Gates K060390
Water Pump and P/S (Ultra S) 91- 91 Gates K040340
IIRC those are a 6 rib 39" belt and a 4 rib 34" belt. Correct?
BTW, I picked up my pullies for about $160 at a local shop in Phoenix, but i know most places sell them for around $175-200.

how much more horsepower and torque do you gain and is it hard to install it? Instructions would be cool.

I think they add about 4-6 hp with the 2 pulley set. I cannot remember the exact number. Oh, that is also with a SR20DE. I have no idea how much hp they would add to a SR20DET. In addition to freeing up a few hp, they will help the engine rev quicker and that translates to quicker turbo spool-up. That of course means more power sooner and smoother.
It took me just under an hour to intall the 2 pulley set on my SR20DE that was in my P10 before I installed the DET.

and when you do it you should replace your crank seal since it is probably seeping a bit. mine was when i put my pulleys on.

Absolutely!
Anytime you break a seal you should replace that gasket or seal.

It may not be a bad idea to replace the seal even if it isn't leaking, especially on a high mileage car. I don't think it was over $4.00, but I may be wrong on that, it's been a while since i installed my pullies. Oh yeah, if your motor is in the car it should take about an hour or two for the install, if it's on a stand for any reason the install should take all of about 5 minutes. :D

OH yeah, I'm an idiot... the other thing i really wanted to mention was that I had some trouble getting the PS pulley on the PS pump due to the inner diameter of the hole in the pulley being smaller than the outer diameter of the aligning bump on the pump itself (if that makes sense). You'll know what i'm talking about as soon as you see the UR pulley and the stock one. For me, the hole wasn't quite big enough, and no matter what i did the pulley wouldn't sit flush. I just took a round file, and very very carefully filed the hole a tad larger, making sure to do it very evenly as to not make the pulley out of balance. It didn't take much, I'd say maybe .5mm. The sizes were barely off, but i had to do this in order for the pulley to fit properly.

rather than a round file i used emery paper...it works a bit slower which on aluminum is better. take it until the anodizing is just worn off a bit. that should be enough. ur has all of the measurements correct before they coat it, when they get coated it sets them off a bit.

that's weird, my pullies were silver/clear. still anodized w/ a clear anodize (sp?) for protection? and also, another list member locally just installed a set on his B14, and the pullies fit fine without any modifications.

the center hole on my water pump pulley wouldn't fit over the center nub thing on the water pump so i used a mild grit emery paper and a socket extension to wear teh inside down a bit. it worked perfect. it barely took the red layer down to silver so i figured that the red coat on my pulleys is what was causing it to not fit. jsut my theory, only place that it is fact is in my world where the sky is orange and trees are made of kudos bars
