96 altima time chain guard help

been reading about how the timing chain guards make funny sounds with the chain. i get the same sound from that area where the chain is but only under 1500rpm at idle. im figuring its just the chain tightening up when it passes 1500rpm...if this is the fault then can i remove the guard myself without having to remove the engine, or what should i do here??:screwy:
