Porsche Boxster Special Edition

I have decided that this will be my next project. Now all I need is to decide on what colour to paint it. I have already made up my mind that the 19" special edition wheels will be painted Gold maybe with a silver trim ring.
Currently I am leaning towards painting it in yellow as most pics I have seen have it in this colour. I must alos try to find some carbon fibre decals in New Zealand so I can give it a carbon fibre centre console which I saw on a Porsche in a magazine today (looks very tidy indeed).
Does anyone have any good ideas for this kit?
any advice will be taken and delt with appropriately:D

I would go with a pale yellow rather than the golden yellow, the Boxter suited this much better IMO!
Silver or dark blue also look great on Boxters

this blue?

looks similar to Tamyias TS-53 the same colour I painted my 360 spider.
I can't have 2 exotics of the same colour. could I?

I know someone with a yellow one, and it looks really good in real life.
Couldn't tell you which yellow it is, but its not bright, sort of a mustard yellow.

the first time I saw one in real life was when I took my sister to the airport, there was one parked in the Valet area and I though it looked kind of cool. Should have taken some reference pics.

sir tazdev,
how 'bout paint'n it SILVER BLUE and for the interior paint it dark blue. to be somewhat different from the crowd, cuz most modelers will probably paint it yellow, drk blue, red or black. and the real thing you can custom order it from porsche in any color you like.
nwayz jus a thought... lates

I'm building right now Tamiya's Boxster special edition. I had the intention to paint it light blue metallic.
I first primered the body parts in two layers after that I painted it with car laquer gloss black en then I sprayed two layers of the Light blue metallic nail polish over it. The color turned into light green metallic. It surprised me a bit but I like it very much.
The interior I painted black with Tamiya X 32 Titanium Silver.
I painted the rims Tamiya X 31 Titanium Gold.
Believe me the color suits the car very good. When the car is finished I will take some pictures of it so I could post them to this forum.
I hope it helps you to make up your mind.
Take care.

Another picture of the Boxster. As you could expect from Tamiya this model goes together very well. Cut all the parts, put them inside the box, shake the box and there is the model.

Just wondering, what're the differences between a Boxster and Boxster S?
Were any photoetched parts ever made for the Tamiya Boxsters?

The main differences are the mesh wheels and the speedster rear section

what're the differences between a Boxster and Boxster S?
The Boxster S has more horsepower, and a middle grille in the front, plus a double-outlet rear exhaust. Otherwise it looks just like any Boxster. The main differences are the mesh wheels and the speedster rear section
That would be comparing the Tamiya Boxster and the Tamiya Boxster Special Edition, which is not a Boxster S as far as I know...

I still have no idea what colour I am going to paint the exterior of the car.
So far the wheels will be the mesh wheels painted gold with a silver insert. The interior of the car is to be beige and black.
WHAT COLOR SHOULD I PAINT THE EXTERIOR??????????

I did the Tamiya's Boxster straight from the box, a couple of years ago.
Plain silver with red interior.

The Boxster shall be . . . . . .
BLACK
seeing as I have no straight black cars in my collection

Well I went to the model shop today and got some Tamyia spray (black metallic) and whilst browsing through their diorama making stuff I found some 1:24 scale double diamond plate. This gave me an idea, it is now getting common to find show cars with not carpet but checkerplate floor mats. Simple soluiton if you can't make realistic carpet:D
So the floor mats are the diamond plate covered in ultra bright Chrome bare-metal foil. So simple and in my opinion so effective.
Tell me what ya think

It looks a bit oversized though, don't they have it in a smaller size?
But it's a great idea, for sure!!

Hey Tazzy,
Forget what I said about the checkerplates being a bit oversized, on this picture they look just great. Also the combination of the beige interior and black exterior are looking equally good as red/silver combination :D
After the polish job, it'll look just awesome!!
Cheers,
Guido

Just paint it.:)
There are several ways to do this, but essentially, it's just painting clear red on some metallic colors.
1) Paint clear red on Baremetal, and cut it to fit the body. This might appear it too light, so add several layers of clear red to add depth and darken it.
2) Paint metallic gray on the body directly, using masking tape, or on a blank decal, and coat it with clear red. This should be able to represent more realistic dark look of a brake light. Try several different lightness of metallic gray to achieve a desired darkness.
I recommend Baremetal or blank decal, since it's easy to cut a flat foil or decal, rather than masking such a narrow area.

option 1 sounds good.
or I could just cut it out of red insulation tape (cheap alternative  )
edit:
Went with option #1 mentioned by hirofkd
I have to say that clear red over BMF is awsome. Will take some more pics tomorrow if I get it all finished
