Dead Speedometer

Yesterday the speedometer in my 05 TB EXT quit working. It now resides below 0 mph (don't think it was there before when the truck was off.) I'm hoping my GM Majorgaurd will cover it (is GMPP premium protection or basic), as I know a new instrument panel wouldn't be too cheap. Just when I thought it wasn't going to have anymore problems. I must say, though, I have heard slight noises coming from the speedometer occasionally, kinda like a faint scraping noise, so maybe it's been going bad all along. Time to make an appointment at the dumb dealer. My Chevy dealer stinks. Anyone think a Pontiac/Buick/Olds dealer would order Chevy parts and do the work?

Any GM dealer can perform service on your vehicle, the Buick Ranier is the same as a TB
Try a GMC dealer

Update: Yesterday my mom took the TB to the store. She said when she first was pulling it out of the driveway it was making grinding and clunking noises and didn't want to move. So she turned it off and turned it back on and now the speedometer works. I'm baffled. Perhaps the speed sensor is bad? Something I should've checked while the speedometer wasn't working was to see if the auto-volume on the radio was still working. That would've indicated whether it was simply the gauge or something worse.

Failed instrument panel clusters are common on GM's. They typical failure point on trailblazers in the motorized tach. These tachs typically make a lot of noise. A reman'd IPC r/r shouldn't break the bank. GM service guys are used to doing them.

Well now the dumb speedometer is working intermittently, a hit or miss of whether it will work. I think one time it was working while driving, but suddenly stopped. Anyone know if GM Majorgaurd will cover it? I think that's the warranty I have, it could be Smartgaurd though.

You can call GMPP (the number is on your policy) and ask.
Most likely GMPP will cover the replacement.
