No you don't, they did and it sucked compared to the real deal. There was however talk about having an american topgear, and I would like to see that as a compliment to the british original. Ours would kick just as much ass.

Well I know they used to show some old episodes on Discovery Channel. I don't understand why they give us the same episodes aired over there. I guess the producers firgure Americans are to big of a bunch of NASCAR lovin rednecks to enjoy their show.

Well the original British version is an hour long without interruptions, most cable TV programs are just a half hour long with commercials with a few hour long programs. The only station that could pull off airing the full version would be public broadcasting stations which generally don't have commercial breaks.
Regarding the Top Gear America show, it looked to be headed for averageness. Sure, the format would be similar to the British Top Gear, but none of the hosts had the credibility or the character of Clarkson, Hammond, and May. I don't watch Top Gear to re-affirm my own beliefs about cars, I love their different point of view.

I don’t understand why the speed channel won’t pick it up! Most people would watch it “as is” with out Americanizing it!

Apparently you had never watched top gear before they aired then, or have no interest in european cars. An american top gear WOULD/WILL suck.

Seriously man, I wonder the samething. If those fuckers can air professional go-karting, you think they'd be smart enough to air Top Gear. It just doesn't make sense how a channel like Discovery did it, but Speed won't.

BBC should do it, in all honesty, because they would leave it unedited.
As for the American Topgear comment, Yes and No, and NO. Yes I started watching TopGear first on discovery channel but then I watched all the original episodes. There's some stuff they say about the war on terrorism that probably would not be aired here. Not liking european cars has nothing to do with it, we have different racing and different cars from the british, so it would be just as good, only different.
Now getting hosts to rival the trio is a problem, and Joe Rogan is not an automotive journalist (Even though he's mad funny) so he can't be in the show.
Just for the sake of argument, there are american car journalists with a need for speed out there, even though I don't know them. Can anyone here name someone?

I always thought Car & Driver TV was the closest thing we'll get to Top Gear, except C&D was alot more boring and they definitely didn't have anywhere the same kind of level of sports cars. It was like Top Gear for the average daily driver with some sports cars thrown here and there.

Our major malfunction is that we have too many tuner shows so they'd try to throw drifting into it or something.
