I have a 90 Dynasty that wont turn over. I have changed the starter and the battery is good. Someone mentioned to me that the transmission positioning sensor is probably bad. Is there a way to get around this without spending a whole lot of cash? If so please let me know!

Thanks

First of all, the term "turn over" is very ambiguous. Some people use this term instead of saying "the starter doesn't operate". Others use this term instead of saying "the starter cranks but the engine won't start and run on its own". So you need to be more specific about what is happening with your car.

Assuming that your starter is not cranking (turn the key and nothing happens), you could have a bad nuetral safety switch. If this is the case, try starting the car in both Park and Neutral. Then I suggest holding the key in the start position with one hand and moving the shift lever through each gear to see if the starter will engage at some point. If none of this works, disconnect the switch and put a jumper wire between the terminals. If the car starts now, then the switch is bad. You could continue to run the car with the switch jumpered, but you run the risk of starting the car in gear, not a good thing.

Now, go at it and let us know what you find.
