1999 Jeep Cherokee

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The oil light just came on. I checked the oil level. It was full and I had not lost any. The oil was not milky. I then checked the radiator for signs of oil. It also was fine. When the engine is cold the oil light is off and as it warms up it starts to come on as I make turns. Once the engine has reached the proper operating temp it stays on. :banghead: There are no signs of over heating and the performance is fine. I have thought about replacing the oil sensor. I know the location of it and have replaced one that had cracked on another vehicle. This one is not visibly damaged.

I would replace the oil sensor. That seems to me to be the problem.

seconded, try the cheaper part 1st. then if that doesn't do it, check the pump...

oh, and don't forget to check the wires to the pump/sensor for damage.

hell, while your at it, switch the "dummy-dash" out for a set of guages. they're very handy

good luck

*I would go with cleaning contacts to sender first
*then change the oil filter
*then buy a new sender unit

Thanks for the help. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon14.gif These oil lights are just not enough. I like the guage idea. This way you know exactly what is going on.
I had to order the oil sensor and I am still waiting to get it. I also have some update on the bizzar behavior that the oil sensor is going through. Of course at first when it warmed up it would just stay on. Then it would only come on when I when I was driving between 30mph and 40mph. The next day it was back to just coming on once it warmed up and stayed on. Then again on another day it would only come on when I came to a complete stop. :banghead:

Changed the oil filter which had no change. I then removed the plug from the oil pressure sensor and noticed oil. I cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner and the oil light has not come back on (except during the normal starting of the engine).http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/icons/icon14.gif Thanks again.
