Tornado fuel saver thing, on informercials, anyone use it?

Ok well im sure you have all seing the info mercials about the tornado thing that goes in your intake and well is supposed to give u some more hp and help save gas, anyways I was wondering if anyone here uses it or has , or knows anything about it what so ever, i mean it seems good but i never hear anything about it, if it really was that good im sure i would hear more? Anyways....anyone know anything about it? Seems like another as seen on tv scam :\

When I see a tornado on every race car I'd be sure and buy it.

I've seen and used free-flow air filters like the K&N filtercharger/PiperCross on race and road cars. I've seen dyno results and driven before/after with ram airboxes/cold air intakes/free flow filters and I know they work.

My Friend Tim Graper (96(?) Ford Probe GT) bought one- and he says it works. He claims a 3 to 4 HP boost (which is :o ) but his gas mileage went up almost 7 miles to the gallon. Was it worth it?

Tim says, "Yes"

One of the magazines tested one, dynoed each car they tried it on before and after, and NONE of the cars got any higher hp, and gas milage did not improve. They say it's just a big scam.

I've read something like this about it too. Maybe the people who are having performance increases (or gas milage) is because they cleaned their intake wich helps in any case.

Those figures sound pretty darn good to me.......Now if I can just figure out how to fit eight of them in series,I'll get an extra 30-odd horseys,and my gas tank will fill itself up as I drive along!

they stack the results from what ive heard. Like theyll do dyno pulls in different gears, and thats how they get drastic increases. Ive heard they can even rob power from your motor

Funny this reminds of me of 'as seen on TV' item called the 'exhaust turbo' - essentially it was thing you attached to the end of the tailpipe that had a pile of vanes that were supposed to 'straighten and create a vortex' with your exhaust - oh and reduce back pressure. This was supposed to enhance power, reduce fuel consumption and improve performance.

One poor smuck tried to sell me one at a car show. I looked at it - asked him it was made of and was told it was stainless. I couldn't help but burst out laughing.

The one he was demonstrating had vanes that were already showing signs of mild steel rust on all the welds on the inside. The other dude working with him got all angry and said: "Don't you know Formula One cars use turbos ? That's how they make so much power!'

Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!

This resulted in several of us (who all either race or help out on race cars including an engineer) - rolling around on the floor in fits of laughter - it was just so hilarious that he was inferring that this mild steel tailpipe extension was called a 'turbo' much less showing he knew nothing about how a F1 turbo works.

Oh well PT Barnum also did say... one born every minute...

That's exactly what the "Tornado" is, except it goes in the intake instead of the exhaust

Maybe they have some in a warehouse from the last time these schlocks ripped off the unsuspecting consumers.

By the way have any of you heard of the 'Khyber Pass' scam? It goes like this - you send a whole pile of invoices for advertising in a non-existent newspaper or magazine (but with a plausible name) off a business mailing list. You make the amounts small ones say about $40 - don't quote a purchase order number and mail them off with the return address to a post box.

Now most of them will never get actioned but if you send enough some companies are so slack that these items will actually send cheques to pay for their advertising.

Several companies got burnt by scams like this in the 90s...

as for the tornado, i dont see how anything that has shit IN THE WAY OF THE AIR FLOW (i.e. restricting it) would give you more power.... hmm

Your friend also could have gotten better gas mileage because he was trying to drive to get better gas mileage. Alot of the people that say they get better mileage with something like this only get better mileage becasuse they drive differently then they would otherwise, because of course, they got this new thing that they have to test out. Like Steel said, I don't see how putting anything extra on or in your intake is going to help, its either a new intake, or a forced induction setup. Thats it.

So, he had it Dynoed?

Cuz I dunno if anybody would really be able to feel 3-4 HP gain... If they can, how do they know it's just 3-4 HP and not 5-10? I think your buddy was just feeding you the same BS that they claim on the commercial.
