What year did the grill change on the 3 series BMW?
It's all one piece with the hood now.

There have been changes with every new generation. The first 3 Series was the E21, followed by the E30, the E36 and finally the E46 in 1999. Generally, the grills are interchangeable within a family. There may be some exceptions to this rule, though. I don't know my parts well enough to say for sure.

E46 changed to have it connected, probably so it has smoother lines (1999)

I'm pretty sure E36 didn't have it connected
