Bought this car for my son, his first, and I was wondering, can locksmiths or anyone else make duplicates of the ignition key, or is this a dealer thing? The ignition key has the security chip on it. Also, one of the steering wheel radio controls pops off the wheel occasionally. How do you get this thing back on?
The button itself does not seem damaged in any way. Thanks!

Welcome to AF, the chip in the key can be read at a GM dealer and installed in a key cut for the car, many top line locksmiths can do this also. The button probably has broken lock tabs, look closely.

I'll check when I get home. I tried re-seating the button last night, but I
didn't want to force it and damage it worse. Other than that, the car runs great.

Just for note.. bring your car or VIN # to the dealer if there have been no car changes from original.
I think it is rather expensive compared to normal key buying.. $40?
The pill in the key is a resistor.

It is possible to disable or circumvent that system for cheaper key purchases. Some have put a resistor in the wiring and replaced that circuit item. If you do this it will defeat the security system however thieves know this car type has the system and difficultiies. What they dont know about your perticular car is their problem.

Good Luck

Yeah, it cost me 40 bucks at a locksmith. He told me there are 15 different
security chip possibilities. Next I gotta get the key fob.
