Replacing shift cable

Hi,

I own 91 TC and got trouble with column shift lever. When I tried to park and shifted

the lever to P(parking), the shift does not work properly. I realized that the lever

became very sloppy and loose. If I push the lever upward hardly, the gear goes into

right position and parking brake lamp comes up. Actually, I have not seen the parking

brake lamp on when I stepped on the parking brake pedal since I bought my TC 3 months

ago, I always have doubt this thing. I removed the instrument cluster and check the

connection and bulb, everything was fine. So, I think the connection between

transmission and shift lever went bad. And I visited Lincoln Dealer to find the parts

for that, the staff told me the shift cable might be loosen. Then I read Chilton manual

to adjust the shift cable, I could not find any particular article about the shift

cable.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?

Thanks all.

Have a look at this:
http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00120.html

It's not the cable the article addresses, but the symptoms sound the same :(

My books don't go back to 1991, sorry :(
I do have the 1992 edition but I must say, that shift cable for 1992 looks like a real pain in the butt to rework. The adjustments are extremely critical for proper shifting.

I could get you the 1992 data if you want to have a look anyway.
