Clear Coat

How do you use clear coat?? i just bought some for the first time, is it just like normal sprays just a few coats?? its tamiya btw.

Do i do clearcoat after everything has been done?? as in after decals lights etc?? polishing out is done after clear??

Do the clearcoat after you have painted and applied decals.If your window frames are satin/matt black you will need to do them after the clearcoat or they will end up gloss.Be careful with the Tamiya Clear TS-13 as I have found it can attack the decals if applied too heavily at first.Build it up in very light coats and let these dry before you apply heavier coats.I would leave your lights etc off and fit them after the clearcoat has dried.

I do clearcoat about in the middle of the build. I generally paint the body color, then jump straight to clear; before decals and headlights and window rubbers and anything else. If the car is a racecar, or otherwise has a ton of decals on it, I'll apply them first, then clearcoat it, but you have to be careful applying the clear, because it can possibly damage the decals. After clear is down (and usually polished), I add the body details like lights, window rubbers, trim, and such, and badging decals and so forth.

Yes, paint the body. Then put the decals on, then clear coat. Light at first, then heavy coats--at least 5 coats. Then, polish with cloths and then compound, then finally apply trim, install windows, etc.

so if i'm working on a C6-R, i should do base, then decals/BMF, clear, then rubbers and window frames?

By the way, is it necessary to light sand between the first mist coats of clear?

for the Revell C6-R I'll be doing the following.

Base coat.
Polish.
Decals
Clearcoat.
Polish and wax.
Paint any black trim items with X-18.
Then apply the BMF around the exhaust and the PE/machined pieces using clear paint as the adhesive.

p.s. I won't be doing mine until I receive the SRC's version which includes the kit, PE and machined pieces.

don't sand between clear coats. You run the risk of breaking through to the base coat.
