Head lights won't work - Help!

Both of my headlights quit working all of a sudden. I've been driving around with the little fog lights only or the high beams on the back roads.
Even if i turn the switch on, they don't come on. I don't want to go spend $36. for the bulbs if it's something else.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Check for 12v and ground at the connector on the headlites before you buy anything, basic diagnostics.

If the high beams work but the low beams don't then it's most likely the bulbs. Ground should be OK since you say the high beams work. Strange how both would go at the same time, unless you were driving around with one headlight for a while.
The price of new bulbs is a lot cheaper than the ticket you'd get from Officer Friendly for not having working headlights. Or worse, hitting someone/something because you didn't see them.
But, as maxwedge said, make sure you have power to the headlight connector first.

I would not rule out both low beam lamps being burnt out. See old thread below.

Did you use aftermarket? Like Hyperwhite bulbs? I did and it melted the wires and I had to re-wire them and go back to stock.. Just throwing that out..

Turns out both head lights bulb (low beam) burnt out at the same time. Replaced 9006 bulbs with new ones from Advance Discount Auto parts.
Thanks very much for all the help and to those that responded.
