I'll never finally come to a decision...

As many of you know, there has been a lot of back and forth on whether or not to sell the Talon. The Firebird has seen better days and just cannot go on anymore. Its losing about 3 quarts of oil a week from the rear main seal and its just not worth it to fix it now... Things are starting to break on it left and right and its over for it... I'm gettin rid of the Firebird and keeping the Talon...

Of course, the Talon still has a while until its running. So the question remains, what do I do in the meantime? Well, I have been considering a new car for a DD for a long while now but I was looking at all the wrong cars. I have finally realized I need a practical DD instead of another sports car that'll break every other day and have crazy insurance. So, I found a cheap DD that is new, dependable, and still tickles my fancy... I talked to my mom about co-signing for me and shes all for it. Now all I have to do is get dad to agree and I'll be well on my way to getting my loan and buying it...

Any guesses?

I'll give you a hint... Its a 4 door with awd... :licka:

I'll let you all sit on the edge until I get home from work tonight then I'll show it to you. :)

Oh yeah, if anybody wants a cheap beater car let me know. I'll let the Firebird go for dirt cheap. lol

its a wrx you can find those pretty cheap now and dont think your looking for high payments so a evo is out of the question being it would be like 400 a month. so i say a wrx

Hey I just got home from work and breaking up with the girl guys... Its an 03 WRX... I gotta convince dad to also go for the co-sign and I'm home free.

**EDIT**
So anyways, Mike tried to ruin the surprise but he forgot I have mod power. hehe... :p

So yeah, I have been lookin and lookin and found this one and was amazed at the price comparison compared to an Evo. I gave everything the run down in comparison and I really wanted to go with this one STi I found, but it woulda bumped the price up to about 21k and I can't swing that. This one I'm lookin at is an 03, silver, 60k miles, and already built up. Hehe... Thats my favorite part and its only goin for about 15k... Not too bad I thought.

**EDIT 2**

I'm not sure of the extent of the mods it already has done...

gthompson97
12-08-2006, 03:34 AM
I don't know how reliable subaru's are when modded, but if I was you and had the Talon built to hell (well, I am in your shoes, kinda :)), I would definitely not get another modded car, even if it was an Evo or something meant to be modded, why would you want another one? It's just more shit to break man, that's my opinion. If I was you, find a nice cheap one that's bone stock, maybe exhaust and intake at most.

Thor06
12-08-2006, 03:53 AM
Never know with people though. They may have paid full retail price and labor for installation on all their shit, so in reality that 8k only got stretched a little ways, and it might not even be all performance. Some one that really knew what they were talking about and did it themselves, they woulda rattled that shit off. My guess is the rims and tires were a tad over a grand, it looks lowered and that stuff plus isntallation would total up there too. A brand name full exhaust could run you well over a grand installed too, and you never know what they consider performance. A full stock brake job could be like $500-$800 (I was quoted $300 IIRC for pads and disks for just the front on the cavy :screwy:) or more and they might call that performance. Also, looks like it has a valence kit to me, paint and instal on that would definately tak a toll on the pocket book. I bet its a lightly modded WRX and the guy/girl selling has no fucking clue what went down with regards to that cars performance.

Mikelb
12-08-2006, 08:45 AM
+1...

Niiice car though... and keep the daily as stock as possible... it would be more reliable that way...

I'm entertaining the idea of picking up a '99 GST for my stock (nicer than my project car)

Ooooo more details if possible. I completely forgot about us both going to the same track here. lol Yeah, the guys is up by Tallmadge here so I'm sure he comes down to Quakers track...

As for the modding, I don't have any plans to mod it at all because I want it to be a reliable DD. If theres a few things done to it already then I won't mind too much. I just don't wanna find out that its been beat to all hell at the track... In reality 14k is pretty cheap for a WRX around here. Not a car that you see very often at all...

I talked to dad this morning then and he has no problem co-signing for me to get a loan for a new car. But... lol Theres always that "but" factor... The only way he will co-sign is if I draw up some spreadsheets of comparison of it to other competitor cars with all the specs and such along with a spreadsheet of my finances to show him I can actually afford this. Trust me, I'll have no problem making a 300$ a month car payment when I have practically no other bills now...

yea sorry for the late reply guess it doesnt matter now.

but yea the car was all show no go i just know it has an exhaust cause its not very quiet but it sounds good. he was a bad driver he ran like 15s with that thing. but he would never pop the hood which means it probally didnt have anything.

and blackcrow i better see your ass at the track this year i just finished building a monster and a half. now when i send thor the money for the tranny im going to tear it up at quaker all summer long.

Again, why not get something cheaper? Why get a loan? Get something cheaper. Again, a Cavy or something like that is perfect. You don't need AWD turbo for a DD IMO. Not worth the hassle.

And I've heard the trannys suck. Seen a STi drop it's tranny on the street, literally. Did a launch at some high rpm and next thing you know there's pieces all over the street and the tranny on the ground. Destroyed the block then too when it fell off.

I agree about not getting a turbo awd daily driver...because you will be tempted to mod it and then it will become unreliable...but if you know you can restrain yourself from modding it then go for it if you can afford it...and it is true that the WRX tranny is weak...they cant take very much abuse...but the STi trannys are practically bulletproof...i mean any tranny will break if you are hard on it all the time...but I have been doing reasearch on the wrx trannys for a friend and they dont take much to break....but if you leave it stock you should be fine...

That one you are looking at now looks good...they really are fun cars to drive too...

Edit: here is a good link about the wrx transmission

I should be able to make it out to the track this next year hopefully. This year it was all work work work. Now, as of tonight, my schedule has been changed again to the graveyard shift. Ugh... Oh well, no supervisors to deal with.

On the note about the trannys... I already know this but I had no intentions of modding it. I just want something fun to drive still... Hence why I don't wanna go the Cavy route... Yeah I want something practical, but I don't want something that common... If that makes much sense. lol

Who knows... I was pricing the STi's and they were a tad out of my price range... Actually, all of these are but thats why they make loans.

As for getting the loan. The reason I want to go this route is so I can establish some more awesome credit. Its so nice to have no hassles with anything because of it. :)

Anywho... Yeah, this blows now... Maybe I should just say screw it and buy a damn evo cause I know those are bulletproof and still meet the requirements that I want. :p

I'm craaaaaaaazzzy! :jump3:

i could never buy an evo as a DD thats way too tempting. Personally id go with a 4x4 truck or suv nowadays you can still get good gas mileage, low insurance, and its good in the snow, if it snows wherever you live, and your not tempted to mod it.

Well... After much searching and many headaches of complications, now I am looking towards a Cobalt... Simply for the fact that I can get a practically new 06 for 10k... I honestly said I would never get one too. But 10k for an 06 with only 7k miles on it is not a very common find. All the Cobalts around here usually go for about 14k+ and have like 20k+ miles on them...

Any thoughts or opinions on this one?... I am prepared to get beat with a raw piece of meat... lol
