Looks like I am finally going to get to run a certain Corvette this weekend. :grinyes:

Trying to line up a cameraman.
Going in street trim which means Nitto DR's on the back.

2007 against a 1999???
What you think? :icon16:

Z06's are quite wicked... But from what I gather a tricky car to get off the line.

So, if you can get him outta the hole... I think you'll take it.

Calling for low 60's Friday and mid 50's Saturday.

Hoping to get all the footage I can those two days for my new video. :icon16:

Mr. Luos

4th gear ends at 125MPH.
I don't like to race using overdrive gears...which are 5th and 6th. Good way to trash a transmission.

The car will go plenty over that 125MPH.
4.11's with a rev limiter at 6700 RPM's.
Top speed in 5th = 168
Top speed in 6th = 249

Stock top speed gearing... (3.42 with a rev limit of 6200)
5th = 187
6th = 277

Of course...the car would have to have the power to pull all the way through 6th gear and against that wind resistance.
My top speed would most likely be near 185 MPH right now....
Not sure if the car would like that too much.

Just a question for you Mr. Lous. Why don't you gear your car so that 6th tops out at whatever the fastest speed you actually plan on going with the car? Like say 150 mph?

Mr. Luos
12-07-2006, 11:34 AM
Don't want overdrive gears being used at the track.
5th and 6th are overdrive gears.

4th is the 1:1 gear, that is what you want to finish racing in.

From what I understand, he is completely stock. It will probably be pretty chilly, so it might be interesting. Traction will be an issue if we were to go from a dig.

You actually think you can even come close to hanging with a CORVETTE? Dude, Corvette’s have so much fucking torque it’s nothing to joke about. You know his car has a 7 liter engine, right? I can’t believe you think you can compete with that. I hope you’re joking.

S2000s come stock with 4.10 gear and the transmission is geared very closely. 9000 rpms in 6th is at 167 mph, while the car tops out in the 150-155 mph range. Owners swap even 4.77 gears into them.

Even owners with high hp that drag race their cars don't go lower than 4.10s. A lot of them are at the top of 5th gear at the end of the track.

I don't see what the big deal is about finishing in an overdrive gear at the end of a track?

Completely different application.

I refuse to bang 481 ft/pounds into a weaker gear in the transmission.
I don't know the S2000's, but which gear is the 1:1. That is the gear you want to finish in.

Also the S2000 revs to 8 or 9 grand depending on the year. Each of those gears will stretch a little farther, hence the 4.10 gears stock.

From his mouth to my ear. I didnt see any proof, just took it for fact. I didnt even know what they put out at all. He lives in New Mexico and seems to have plenty of money so dont know why he would tell me a story.

He is short though...

2000LS1Z28
12-07-2006, 08:54 PM
Honestly if he is on street tires there is no way he will beat you. If he is on drag radials you will most likely lose IMHO. Somehow I doubt that he is running with drag radials though, as he's probably just cocky, and doesn't know your setup. He'll probably be spinning down 1st and 2nd gear while you bang 3rd from your traction advantage.

Honestly though head to head, and him on equal footing, I think a Z06 would beat you. You'd need more power then what you are currently at to keep up with one with a decent driver. Someone like Ranger would give you a 10 sec. whooping on drag radials.

But you will most likely win, so bet some money :D

Mr. Luos
12-07-2006, 09:25 PM
I refuse to bet on a race. Well....at least money. Friendly bets are another thing.

Some of the guys here did a DA adjustment from Ranger's run to our normal 7000. 12.1 at 116.

I think I can pull VERY lightly from a dig even if we both have traction.
I think my car would go faster than a 10.85 at 128 if the DA was -850. Not by much though.

chevytrucks92
12-07-2006, 09:32 PM
I dont know man. He's putting more power to the ground then the Z06 is making at the flywheel. I realize there is a significant weight advantage though and so that's why I think it will be close.

Yeah the Z06 is probably only making 440-450whp, but it is only 3,100lbs. Your car has gotta way atleast 3500lbs. with that huge iron block in it. I highly doubt the block is any lighter then the LS1 motor it replaced.

I also dunno about your altitude adding over a second to Ranger's time (His last time on DR's was 10.8 sec., not 11.2 sec. as I saw posted here). Mind you I doubt this dude drives like Ranger (Dude was cutting a 1.6 - 1.7 sec. 60' even with the Z06's torque management).

The DA was -850 when Ranger went 10.85.
The DA is normally 6500+ here. At least when the track is open.

I used a calculator and adjusted my 11.97 to -850 DA. 10.6 at 131.
Not saying I would run that...trying to get an idea where I might stand.

Either way...should be close.

Either way though, giving up 500 pounds is HUGE. So how bad was it???
