Ouch...dude!
That happened to my dad one time and boy was he pissed. He called up there and raised all living hell.Maybe you should do that too.And perhaps you need a beer and a smoke to calm your nerves of the shock.

I didn't have to raise hell... I called and calm as possible, explained that they messed up... now the account is "under investigation"... they said they will fix it... if not, then I'll raise hell...

Wow that sucks real bad. They should be able to fix it. Or if worst comes to worst just dont pay it and get a new cell phone company.

OMG, and you know it costed them no wheres near that much to do the data transfer. I don't even have a cell phone because I don't want to deal with the bullshit phone bills, I've heard of people getting some crazy high bills. And you know that cell phone companys are making billions each year, you'd think they could afford to lower there prices a pinch.

Why would they? They know that despite their prices, the public will still pay it. Just like the rising prices on gas. People will still pay the high prices and still drive the same amount of mileage.
As for me the highest bill I ever got was just above $867.00. And that was my fault and I had to pay...OUCH!

That's not true. Cell phone companies don't make as much as you think. Yeah, it's high, but the company doesn't start making money off of you until month 23 of a 2 year contract. If you get a one year, we dont make anything.
And yes, people will pay. They bitch and raise all hell but nowadays people can't be without a cell phone. Just had a customer complain and still get a five line family plan.
I work for Cingular Wireless in a corporate store and know all the ups and downs with telecommunications. Seen it all. Seen all the behind the scenes too. It's massively expensive behind the scenes. Just to keep the network up and running and keep the wheels turning.
One of my customers had a $2,500 phone bill due to a bill error. All you have to do is call customer service (611 or *611) and explain to them what the deal is. Don't do into a store and raise all hell. It's not going to get you anywhere. Customer service will put it under review and credit where neccesary. Another one of my customers just had a $13,000+ credit put on the account. Her husband just kept paying and didn't pay attention to what he was paying. She called and they did that. She now doesn't have to pay her bill for about 2 years now. Lucky.

yeah, the even crazier thing is... the feature (unlimited data transfer) worked or came into effect for half the month... the 180Mb that was transferred was only 1/3 of the months total... I had another 365MB of transfers, but for some reason the feature worked... so, had it not, I woulda had a $5k+ bill...
That's crazy... but it's the company's fault, it shows on my account that the feature was supposed to be enabled... but it just didn't do something right on the new phone... so I have no doubt that it will be credited...
I haven't listed the phone company's name for a reason, but that's to keep them from getting a bad rap... If they don't resolve it, you can bet I'll drop the company and give some bad press...

And even if it doesnt cost them that much to do that shit, if they lowered it everyone would be doing it and they wouldnt be able to handle it, then everyone would be pissing and moaning about their shit not going through. The question remains though, what the fuck did you need to transfer that would ring up a $1720 file transfer charge? Correct me if my math is off, but $1720 / $.01 per kilobyte leaves you with 172,000 kilobytes transferred. So isnt that 172 gigabytes of transfer? What are you transferring from?

180,000KB = 175.78MB
Not Gigs. On internet and stuff, I can get that easily. On my company phone I have Cingular Video (broadband video streaming) and XM radio installed which I constantly use. Both of these constantly stream data to the phone. Plus with my internet usage on it too. I love having a totally paid for phone. lol.

^lol, bill next month better be straight...
Anyways, yeah it was 175MB not GB.... I just moved into a new house, and don't have a landline phone. I hook my cell phone to my PC and use it as a modem. I used to have a V180 which was capable of 55.6kbs transfer, but I added a line and am using an LG CU500 to connect now, which is a 3g phone, capable of near-broadband speeds. I get online and check e-mail, stream videos, download music, ebay, etc....
That 175MB didn't go far at all... As I said, I have another 365MB in that month that were covered under the feature for some reason... Go Figure...

CU500? 3G? V180?... I thought you didn't want to say what company it is? haha. Only Cingular have those.
That's what I have, the LG CU500. Best phone ever made. I do the same with teathering. Also use the 8525 and the Nokia E62 for internet. Don't buy the E62 FYI. It sucks.

Yeah, I love the CU500... it has quirks, but for the most part, it's awesome...
What do you think a/b the other 3G phones (not PDAs/handhelds)...
It's time to upgrade the V180... and I was looking at other 3Gs...
The reviews said they all suck, cept the CU500... so I think I'll stick to the CU500... but you work there, you'd prolly know better first hand

CU500 is the best from what I've seen. The CU400 just came out which is a 3G also. From what I've seen, its pretty good, but it's a down grade.
The Samsung A707 "Sync" is awesome. It's big, MP3, 2.0 Megapixel camera, and 3G. You might want to goto a store and play with that one. Other than that, wait until mid January when all the new phones are out. We got about 14 new one coming out these 2 months.

yeah, I read a/b the A707... there was one flaw or missing feature... so I ruled it out...
Really, I might just wait around then... you know what they are (so I can research)... any good 3g's?

Model-wise, not sure exactly what they are yet. They've just been popping up around the store. lol. I'm trying to think what some other models are but it's early still in the morning . Most new phones coming out will be 3G though. So your best bet is to check www.cingular.com or go into a store. But by mid January they'll all be out by then. Oh and FYI, dont buy a phone over the internet. Sometimes you'll get a refurbished one or an older model.

That said the call quality was fuzzy...
and that phone would cost me $20 more in the store...
I really think I was mistaken it for the Samsung SGH-ZX20 though

Its fucking stupid cell phone carriers can charge that much to people. My friend reconfigured a couple cell phones to connect to the internet via his server insted of Cingulars. making all the data free. He said it's actually pretty easy to do.
Last month when he was in the hospitle he had to do a master reset on his phone and forgot to reconfigure his phone and racked up a $4500 cell phone bill.
Edit: I just PM'd him to ask him what cell phones he uses to do it. If any of you have the same phone I'll help you get all your data for free.. He configured mine for me, but I've never used it. I'm not sure how he does it but i'll figure it out..

If I did that I would get fired. And if I see that, I'm technically supposed to report it. So, don't post how to do that publicly.

Mike, I know you said no pdas or anything, but you might want to look at the Samsung BlackJack. It's a bad ass phone. You don't have to use it for internet or anything if you don't want to. But it does come with Windows Mobile 5.0, 1.3 mp camera, 3G, and all the goodies. I've demo-ed one and it was a great phone. Quality is phenomenal. One of my guys I work with is actually going to buy one bc he likes it so much.

All my phones have been Moto and I've loved them all. The razr is a nice phone, but it's not meant for what I use it for. It got all smashed up working on the farm and now the screen is broke, but then again I'm not exactly careful of my phone, it's more or less my fault. I've got Alltell for my service and I love them. For my next phone, I think I'll be getting either the Palm Treo 650 PDA or the UT Starcom PPC6700 PDA. I have a few buddies that have them and it's a sweet phone. If not, I'll be switching to Verizon and going with the Moto Q. I've got some buddies that have that also and they love it. I'm sick of just a plain phone, I want internet on mine, the PDA is my next upgrade.

Motorolas suck. The Razr especially suck. The battery, screen, and keypad always go out on them. We do more warrenty exchanges on those than anything. I kinda like the Silvr, but it's over priced. You pay a fortune for it, and it can only play 100 songs, even with the bigger memory card. My CU500 is holding 121 songs right, PLUS 3 full length videos (Tokyo Drift, Dodgeball, and Half Baked).
The Samsung D807 is also a great phone. Never demo-ed one, but heard nothing but great reviews from it. It comes in white now too ;)
The BlackJack is a sweet phone for the money. It's super thin, fast, 3G, and the keypad is alittle bigger than the 'Q'. I would honestly say if you're looking for a windows device, to consider that one.
gthompson, don't get the 650. It's discontinued. The 680, 700, and 750 just came out. 680 & 750 are Cingular. 750 supports Windows and Palm OS. Haven't heard too much else besides that. Also 3G, but only with Cingular. 680 is a nice little unit. Just the upgrade on the 650

gthompson, don't get the 650. It's discontinued. The 680, 700, and 750 just came out. 680 & 750 are Cingular. 750 supports Windows and Palm OS. Haven't heard too much else besides that. Also 3G, but only with Cingular. 680 is a nice little unit. Just the upgrade on the 650
I'll definitely check the Blackjack... but I'll probably wait on the other phones to come out and see what's out there...
Hey could ya hook me up w/ a 1GB chip for the CU500??!?
I don't really wish to pay $70 for one

Goto Best Buy for that. Sometimes they have them after rebate for $25 or $30. That's where I bought mine. Don't buy a 2GB bc they wont work yet on the CU500.

Alright... Yeah, I already researched everything... make sure it's a Sandisk 1GB card... the firmware revision hasn't been released yet for the 2GB... Although it is expected to be out soon...
I'll check out Best Buy then...
Thanx

Sweet deal. See, in the end, it always works out. I honestly think Cingular is the best with fixing billing problems.

David-b; How is reconfiguing my User ID, Gateway, IP from my phone illigal? It is "my" phone? I was told from a good frind of mine who is T-Mobile Tech it is "techincaly" not illigal. He said he spoke at great lenghts with the IP department about this at T-moble. Have they changed the Phone contracts recently where it states if you reconfigure any of that crap you are in vilolation of their contract? Because mine doesn't say it anywhere on it.
I'm sure diffrent carriers have diffrent rules, I happen to be with Verison and havn't botherd talking about it with them. I also use the E815, It's not a very fast connection, but it lets me post logs on DSMlink forums, and while waiting in the staging lines to run agian..
Please Explain further your understanding of this Policy. Thanks.. scott
