warm idle, or lack there of

I have an '80 pickup with 110K origional miles on it. I don't drive it very often. The poor thing sits in the driveway and gets driven to the end of the driveway to take the garbage cans to the road once a week. Once in a while l will get a load of bark or lumber with it.
Right now it will not idle after it has warmed up. I checked the choke to make sure that it wasn't sticking closed and it is not. I have shot about a half of a can total of carb cleaner through it. New air filter and plugs. When the battery is charged it will fire right up but once it is warm...no idle. It will restart but no idle.
Batteries also not lasting very long anymore. Related problem? I don't drive it much so I can see why they die but they seem to be lasting less and less time. The one in it now is only three months old and dead. The last one lasted about 8 months and the one before over a year.
Any help would be appreciated.

something might be charging incorrectly, but i doubt it, yeah, if the battery is just sitting around it will just die if not really being used. On that if you drive a good distance, or couple miles once in a while the and the battery doesn't really charge so well it might need an alternator. Also it might not want to idle because the timing could be off and needs to be timed.
