2001 chev cavalier rear window defogger

Could somebody advise me whether the rear window defogger has a separate relay? Mine does not work. The fuse is good and the light on the control panel next to the AC switch lights when pressed.
I can get continuity through the rear heater strip and it does go to ground, however there is no voltage at either wire on the rear screen! The incredibly helpful wiring diagram in the Haynes manual does not really show anything other than the control panel and back lighting circuit......
Is there a connector hidden under the seats?? :banghead:
